Bankruptcy through misguidedness - that's US weapons spending under the GOP.

"more money will be needed in areas such as personnel as the Army and Marines expand the size of their forces"

Sushi - Look up how much money was spent on the military during the Clinton years compared to the previous 8 years under Reagan-Bush Sr. and then get back here and admit how wrong you are.

Actually, how does this compare with defense spending for the last few years? Increase or decrease?

Heh, Sarge, if you are going to make a wild claim like that, it always pays to check your facts first.
I checked mine and - not surprisingly - you are completely and utterly flat wrong.
Military spending under Bush snr (89-93) was higher than under Clinton (1993-2001).

I'm trying to find a link to the stats but I doubt any figures during the bush II years will be accurate.
Americans know full well how pretty much the entire Iraq war spending ere snuck in under the radar as "appropriations" bills and never attached to the actual budget where they should have been had bush and his team of munchicans been honest.

Good on Obama for canning the plans for a new fleet of presidential helicoptors.
The previous president would have ridden roughshod over any objections and ordered them anyway. It's funny...some Americans think they actually lived in a democracy between 2000-08. :-)

Let's also hope President Obama puts a stop to the proposed new aircraft carrier 'U.s.S. gEoRGe w. bUuSh'

Sushi - I must confess I didn't check it out before making the claim. By golly, you're right, and I'm wrong on this one! Bush Sr. did in fact spend a few more billion on defense than did Bill. I just naturally assumed the government spends more and more on just about everything every damn year regardless of who's president! Generally this is true...
We'll see how much gets spent on defense and everything else in the next 4 years compared to the past 4 years.

Sarge, no worries, mate!
JT would be a wasteland without your regular contributions - keep it up.
Rock on. :-)
