The Bush administration launched the project in 2005 to help secure the border against illegal immigrants, drug smugglers and other intruders. It was conceived as another layer of protection, in addition to thousands of Border Patrol agents and 650 miles (1,050 kilometers) of real fences.
OOPS. Another bush blunder.
Might as well cut our losses. Not pour millions more that will go down the drain. < :-)

USA and Spanish Mexico, the reason for the fence,is Mexicans don't speak english.
The reasons for many national border fences is lingual difference and economic difference.

rajakumar,
You are half correct. The reason for the fence is mostly economic (and safety). However, it has absolutely nothing to do with language differences.

Tear down the wall!

Waste of money. Legalize drugs, and you will find the wall is not needed.

"Virtual Fences" do not work. -Only real fences make good neighbors.
A virtual fence is sort of like dehydrated water.

At this rate they could probably hire the ppl they want to keep out to get it built quicker.

rajakumar: I'm offended. I'm an Hispanic, and I'm against illegal entry into the US. Please bear in mind, that those coming over the border illegally come to find a better way of life, but there are a lot who could care less and those type enter OUR communities, not your white guy gated communities, and they do a lot of damage either by hooking our kids, not yours, on drugs or getting them to work for them.
Now, what makes you think because our parents or grandparents are solely Spanish speakers, we are all open to illegal immigration?
I don't know if we are all genki about a fence, but we are very open to stopping the bad guys from coming over.

We need the fence, not just a virtual fence but a physical fence over all of the likely places for crossing, and a virtual fence over the other parts.. We have app 12,000,000 illegal aliens in the USA, they need deported and they can come every year on workers permits to work, then to return. Mexicans are some of the hardest workers and best workers, honest nice people... we just need to keep control of the border.
