The Russians are at it again. They are testing the waters. See what the West is going to do this time. Perhaps they thought they could just roll in their tanks like in the days of the Budapest and Prague invasions. I hope the American action will stabilize the conflict.
The Russians know exactly what they are doing. They know we can't back-up Georgia militarily. They know Europe isn't running to the aid. They can get anything they want from China and beyond.
They're just screwing with the United States and they know it. We know it also. < :-)
The US has sent 1 warship, 2 others are on the way. This is a show of strength the Russian government cannot ignore. The Russians may be moronic, but i doubt they are suicidal. They know we are prepared to use force to end any invasion plans They may have.
US military force may be needed, and if we use it, we will be fully justified.
Ri-i-ight Confederate2008. Tell me again how the United States is scaring the hell out of Russia. Tell me more about how the United States is going to kick Russia out of Georgia. < :-)
The fact that strong warnings have been given to Russia over their ilegal invasion, also the fact that 3 warships will soon be docked near to Russia, shows we mean business. The Russian mentality only admires signs of strength and power. As we have shown both, Russia respects us, and withdraws to avoid a wider conflict.
Confederate2008 - Believe what you want. But I'll be seeing Russia remaining right where they are. They ain't running from the US no matter how strong you think we are. < :-)
adaydream; think as you will. My view is the opposite. The Russians will be gone soone rather than later. US Strength and political tact has done the job well, as it has for the last 60 or so years.
The Russians will complete their withdraw to South Ossetia on their own timetable. Since that is officially Georgian territory, that might be deemed an invasion. The US will not and cannot do anything about that.
The warships are not for Russia. The warships are a show for potential NATO nations. It is not Russia who is getting any message here. It is Georgia. And Georgia will have to choose whose message it needs to give more credence to.

"The McFaul is loaded with 72 pallets of humanitarian aid, and is also fitted with an array of weaponry, including Tomahawk cruise missiles."
Isn't this sending a bit of a mixed signal?
Anyway, good on America for sending this aid, and I mean that.

Sending aircraft carriers would be scare Russians shitless, if they don't retreat from Georgian port city Poti.

I hope for VOR's sake Chuck Norris was aboard...

Seems that we should at least give them that. They used to own Georgia, after all.
SezWho2 at 09:05 AM JST - 26th August
SuperLib,
I don't think we have much say in the matter. The terms of Russian withdrawal are not ours to dictate.
