Everything we do will be watched before long.

Please define 'protect'. Can the drones differentiate between restaurant dish washers, lettuce pickers and drug smugglers?

It's kind of the other way around. With so much open land it's not like some drones are really going to make that much of a difference. The government is mostly trying to get some popular support before their upcoming battle with Arizona.

Gimmicky to say the least.

Doesn't matter what they do, people will find a way to sneak across... the only solution is for Mexico to become more... how do I say this without offending anyone, "livable" for its people so they don't want/need to move to the US. Here's an example: how many Canadians do you see sneaking across the border living illegally in the US?

Will they be outfitted with missiles?

"license plate recognition system"
If you have travelled in the UK anytime over the last ten years you will know that these systems really are incredible. They not only recognise the number plate but they also send out the fines too. No human involvement. Not sure how this is going to work with drug smugglers though. Maybe they can automatically target the drones, again, no human involvement. God help Beelzebub’s “restaurant dish washers, lettuce pickers”.

None. We built really deep tunnels a looong time ago.

There isn't even a hint of humanity in that post.

@taka you should see some of the border patrol videos. Some of the fence jumpers aren't all that humane in their actions either.
Tahoochi, don't worry about being PC. Fact is Mexico needs to be improve itself drastically and improving education for a better workforce, and making the most out of natural resources as well as a nationally capable workforce for tech industries (for starters) could get Mexico up to par to attract companies world wide to bring businesses and jobs to them.
Should and if they succeed it would be kind of entertaining to see a large amount of South americans start jumping their fences illegally to get jobs in their country.
