So the U.S forces want the U.N. to do the "policing" and the police want the civilians to just shoot the criminals. -Most backward thing I have heard in a long time.

Another day and another article about violence and security, the media has been obsessed with that from the start. And there is also the strange policy change on helicopter airdrops, I guess somebody figured out that letting people starve to death because you are worried about violence and somehow making things worse doesn't make much sense. If the US military had started using helicopters last week, they might have less violence to worry about this week. Would be interesting to know who made the original decision to not use airdrops, and who made the change.

Yes, the American media seems to be exactly that.

Although CNN's website has an excellent piece on the 20-plus field hospitals staffed by the nearly 450 doctors from Cuba -- and another couple hundred of Cuban-trained Haitian doctors. They have and are treating thousands of wounded.

After a well-known right-wing radio jock's ignorant remarks that "Cuba has done nothing," it's nice to see the U.S. media focusing some attention on what many other nations are doing to pitch in, especially win the area of medical care.

I think a certain commenter above needs to read the title of this piece again:"U.S., U.N. send more troops to help in Haiti." The very fact that so much space is being devoted to what "other" countries are doing is because we really know who is doing the most. And is actually being asked to do MORE by the Haitians themselves. If any of the commenters know more about Haitian needs than the Haitians themselves, well . . . I want that person to step forward. I certainly dont know better than they do. CNN is doing its bit to increase ratings because that network is in the tank. Much more so than said conservative radio jock, whatever his name is. His ratings are thru the roof and ya hafta PAY to join his club. And a lot of people are apparently paying. Their choice. And Haitis choice to request aid from the US, too.

Well-said yabits. It is nice to see that so many countries are pitching in and doing what they can. It must be horrible down there. I have read first-hand accounts from a friend who lives in Haiti; going through what these people are going through is just unimaginable. I count my blessings every day.

And as for those helping out down there, it must be tough to be making the decisions which planes they can take and which they can't each day.

The conspiracy theorists are already out there, claiming the US is trying to re-occupy Haiti. Damned if you do, damned if you don´t...

America's military will do all the heavy lifting and the UN and France will try to take credit.
