I just read an article about another company who did this and found that their sick leave dropped by 50% and their turnover dropped as well.

So long as they keep my salary/compensation the same before the change, I may be OK with this. Of course, my clients and customers may have issues...

Superlib, I did something similar to this with my watch team when I was in the Navy and it was so successful at increasing morale that the officers took it away because it was a little TOO good. Good on Utah!

Utah has great snow, in winter all the peeps can get the mountains more to enjoy it - awesome!

Brilliant! 3 day work week would be even betterHowever wouldn't this only save energy for government buildings. The people with the holiday would just be out of the office and using energy in other activities.

But what a great idea. They should implement this in japan, but I think people would not have a clue what to do if they had freetime.

state employees, that says it all. I am telling you, these government workers get off for the super bowl, the world series, thanksgiving, army, navy, air force, and marine birthdays, typhoons, and what not. Now, if this catches on, other states, the fed, civil service and Yuk, Embassy workers will be doing the same to "save money" at the same time increasing costs for services.

How about giving that savings back to the tax payers? Why get paid the same if you not doing the time?

Whoduthunk it would come from Utah? Good on 'em. Perhaps this will teach the world that no ill effect will come from giving more time off as 'punishment' for the environment.

Interesting point. Coming home too tired to spend with the kids 4 nights a week, may have a negative effect on the family unit. I guess we'll have to wait and see if this Utah experiment works.

While this sounds great on the receiving end, it seems to me that the only thing it really accomplishes is to lower the Utah State govt's energy costs, a savings which correctly pointed out by skipthesong which should be beneifitting the Utah taxpayers. As to lowering the energy cost for the entire state of Utah, shall I assume that everyone on Fridays will now, instead of going to work, will sit in their homes with no light. no a/c or heat, not use any electric or electronic devices, not use the car to go anywhere (including driving to the mountains to hike or bike)? Individual energy consumption is going to take the place of the State govt reduction, that's all.
