What? Recant? Why? It's the man's belief. What is this going to lead to? Pat Robertson believes good lives behind his mirror. The Jews believe they bought the land from some real estate guy three thousand years ago -for some shekles. The pope believes islam is a violent religion. The Jews believe nobody got killed in Gaza by Ehud Barrack when he was Prime Minister... The Jews believe that the land deeds the Palestinians hold - from the British and Ottoman eras don't exist. The Jews believe the Palestinians, Arabs, Bedouins, Phonecians et al cleansed from Trans Jordan never existed. This is unbelieveable. A man has a right to whatever his mind wishes for him to believe. Like it or not.

I have to agree. I can't believe he was actually excommunicated over a historical debate.

I think the most the Pope could or should have done is to tell the bishop to keep his mouth shut about it or lose his position in the church. But to actually excommunicate the guy over this?

He does have a point though, not a very good one, but it is a point. Physical evidence for the Holocaust is lacking. However, just like with many historical events, our primary source is through witnesses. If you are not going to accept the story of witnesses, then half of history suddenly never happened. A very stupid position.

Anyway, how much history have the Popes covered up over the years? Pot, meet kettle.

He wasn't. I suggest you read the article again.

He sure does. And the Church has a right not to admit a Holocaust denier as a bishop.

And the church has a right not to admit a Holocaust denier as a bishop? Really? Under what canon? And since when does the Catholic church take its cues from Isreal? And yes, the church has basically excommunicated him. By taking away his fundamental right to think for himself the church has told him that he is no longer required in the church. Let's not forget the story of christ is rewritten by a certain religion while we're at it hey.
