Typical Bloomberg. He should have been thrown out of the Republican party long before he quit so that he could pose as a spoiler if conservative won the Republican nomination for president. This is why most Americans hate New Yorkers, always trying to shove their elitist values down everyone else's throat, and at their own expense.

bebert1: you are right but I will have to say, I really don't like the idea of guns being displayed at Wal-Mart just like I don't porn at Tsutaya - I really don't think it is a good influence.

This is why most Americans hate New Yorkers, always trying to shove their elitist values down everyone else's throat" I am not a native New Yorker, but lived there since I started working and I love it. You would be very surprised how wrong you are about New Yorkers.. Almost all I know, have a like-hate feeling towards Bloomberg.

additionally, I will say this Mike Bloomberg has done really nothing in regards to reducing crime nor has he done anything to prepare for an upcoming crime spree if the economy falters as expected.. instead he has reduced sentences, taken a very liberal stance on punishments, has done zero in regards to uniting New Yorkers as far as race is concerned and most of all instead of re-vamping the NYC board of education, he installs sexual harassment training for kids as young as 11, damn near made it illegal to say Merry Christmas

"-- Creating a record and alert system to record when a gun sold at Wal-Mart is later used in a crime. If the purchaser of that gun later tries to buy another gun at Wal-Mart, the system would alert the sales clerk of the prior buy and could refuse to make the sale."

wow! Even better yet, if the purchaser later tries to buy another gun, instead of 'maybe not selling one' to him/her, how about calling the cops?

Good old Wal-Mart. They'll pull a CD or DVD off the shelves if it offends the wrong people.....but go ahead and buy that shotgun.

Wal-Mart doesn't sell handguns. Many of their stores have discontinued firearms sales of any kind. In any case, they don't sell guns that appeal to criminals - they don't sell AK's, AR-15's, or any kind of "assault rifle". I doubt that many firearms sold at Wal-Mart have ever been used in a crime relative to the numbers they've sold.
The ATF already requires firearm dealers to keep record of who they sold firearms to - Wal-Mart is not agreeing to anything new. This is just another PR show.

Those idiots are at it again. Just come to your senses and ban them all together like all other Western democracies. American gun laws are just like their foreign policy. No one can understand it

Everton2 Can you at least advocate ridding the place of crime first? The people causing the gun crimes usually get guns illegally and where there is a will there is a way. Advocate sensibility and responsibility first then there really won't be any needs for gun period.

The first thing that really startled me on the first trip to America...the "Home Defense Area" at Wall-Mart. Heh. Scary.

No wonder you guys have so many problems...

This is just another PR show.

And I'll bet it works. Looks like Wal-Mart pulled one over on Mayor Bloomberg.

I fail to see how Wal-mart, which sells long guns to qualified legal purchasers, who must prove residency, age and fill out the Federal form can, by instituting it's own additional corporate rules address the following issues:

-- End the gun show loophole.

-- Require gun dealers to perform criminal background checks on all gun-handling employees.

-- Close a so-called fire-sale loophole that allows gun dealers whose licenses have been revoked by the government to sell off their inventory without background checks.

-- Add those placed on the terrorist no-fly list to the list of people prohibited from purchasing a firearm.

Yeah, the gun show loophole is something that needs to be removed yesterday.
