Finally, sanity has prevailed. This article is very much related to the longevity item posted on this page. Quantity of life is not the same as quality of life. If we shoot horses to put them out of their misery, why would we deny a human the right to die with dignity at a time of his/her choosing, in care, surrounded by loved ones. Instead of alone in a sterile home or worse, strung up in Aoki-ga-hara? For a really good debate on this I recommend: Kung, Hans & Jens, Walter; "Dying With Dignity, A Plea for Personal Responsibility", New York, Continuum Publishing, 1998.

I think if people with a terminal disease wants to take his/her life and it does not harm others directly (it will 'harm' those who are against it, of course, but that's their problem), they should have the choice. It's a sad thing what this woman came to, but she could choose how and when she went, instead of rotting in agony for a little while longer. RIP.
