Gimble noted that contracting scandals have gone on since the late 1700s when vendors swindled George Washington’s army.

In the immortal words of General Richard Secord, one of the crooks who illegally supplied the Nicaraguan "contras" with overpriced and defective materials back in the 1980s: "Hey, can't I be patriotic and make a profit too?"

And at what point do you turn off the spigot so you’re not pouring money into a black hole?

How about you stop invading other people countries? That won't cost a thing. Then you can focus on your own country's problems.

Complicating matters further is the fact that payment of bribes and gratuities to government officials is a common business practice in some Southwest Asia nations.

In the North America and Europe it is called lobbying, in Japan it is called business entertainment, in the Middle East it is called baksheesh. It is just how things are done.... and the US has certainly made good use of it in the past....

I love the $$Billions wasted on government contracts in Iraq. I hear the republicans complaining about what Barack Obama wants to spend in the US to fix us and we're still locked into spending more $$Billions in the george bush Memorial War in Iraq.

Here is just one example of wasted money. Get us the hell out of Iraq. < :-)

Before we go pouring more money in, we really need to know what we’re trying to accomplish.

That was probably true for the initial investments (money, lives, kits, cats, sacks and wives) as well.
