"A further stumbling block was Democrats’ refusal to scrap language, vehemently opposed by the White House, that would force the carmakers to drop lawsuits challenging tough emissions limits in California and other states."
Seems like bush and co are pretty comfortable ensuring Americans breath poisonous air.

The "Blinker La La" technique at it's finest. Who cares that grossely un-economical dustbins that the US has produced since the fifties are responsible for supping the worlds oil supplies in the most selfish manner?
Let's carry on regradless, only hoping that the bailout is rejected in the grounds of the bush whitehouse finest anal retention...

Coming from a guy who has single-handedly done more damage to the US economy than just about anyone else in Washington. He had this same cavalier attitude about Freddie Mac and Mannie Mae before the collapse of the housing market. What an embarrassment he must be, or should be, to the democratic party.

If only there had been this much concern when writing the $700 billion check for the banking bailout. Oh yeah, I forgot that was to save white collar jobs as opposed to those "overoaid union workers". What a bunch of wankers we have running my country.
