“Tonight the death machine exterminated the beautiful childlike and loving spirit of Teresa Lewis,”

My conflicted feelings on the death penalty aside... WHAT? Really? Nothing she did was 'loving', here.

Isn't it ironic that convicted murderers are against the death penalty. I'm sure their victims were too.

an unusual amount of attention because of her gender

Death by shotgun. If a man killed his wife and daughter like this and was sentenced to death, we wouldn’t be reading about how anyone felt all teary about his religion or gender. It wouldn’t even make the news.

She plotted the murder, she paid for it with money and sex and had planned on spending the money thus obtained. She was not innocent, according to a jury of her peers and the lawful sentence was carried out. Justice was served.

"Isn't it ironic that convicted murderers are against the death penalty"

Im sure the 7000 odd that appealed for a stay of execution weren't. Im not a convicted murderer and I'm against it, purely from the position that state sponsored murder has no more justification than the guilty woman had.

I'm still against the death penalty. Always was, always will be. Just seems like common sense.

And the guys who actually pulled the triggers got... life.

Gender had nothing to do with it. The death penalty has no place in a civilized society. But Americans are just too hard headed to listen to such talk. As an American, America embarrasses me doing this.

A guard lightly tapped her on the shoulder reassuringly as she slipped into death.

Is that what they mean by 'killing with kindness'?

I'm against the death penalty unless a person really gives the hard work and effort to do what does what it takes to earn it......After reading her 'resume' she earned it in spades.

The only problem I have with her execution is the 2 men involved should have gotten the same. Kokorocloud: I'm with you, the article talks not only about the crime she's being punished for but her cheating and stealing, where is that beautiful loving spirit?

I have to agree with Wizz - gender should have nothing to do with it. A murderer is a murderer.

    an indignant rebuke from Iran...

Have I missed something. This coming from a country which doesn't hesitate to stone raped women to death.

    ...an indignant rebuke from Iran...

Seriously? Last I checked, Iran not only metes out capital punishment, but does so via slow and painful methods such as stoning...

Well said. In memory of the execution I'm going to pull down my American flag and urinate on it. I'm also going to change the flag on my backpack to Canada's and mention my embarrassment of being American to at least 3 separate groups of expatriots, and not exclusively British expatriots.
