"defy U.S. imperialism"

lol

He did "defy US Imperialism" , just ask the DEA! Chavez kicked them out of Venezuela!!

Penn and Moore are completely out of this stratosphere! America lost a friend it never knew it had. Give me a frickin break. Yeah, I know Penn is still mad at the US for what they did to his dad, but he needs to seriously get that chip off his shoulder. Moore as usual, always gets it wrong another hypocrite who has got his facts wrong. Chavez didn't give anything back to the people, murder rate was soaring out of control. Only eight in every 100 murder investigations lead to an arrest. None of that oil money was used to curb the violence, production is down, money was not invested and therefore, you don't have any growth, that money is used for entitlements. I never heard of Penn and Moore talking about the poverty problems of Valenzuela. Chavez went to Cuba for medical treatment, why not stay in his own country? The average Valenzuelans don't have that kind of luxury of going abroad if they get seriously ill.

Well-wishing from his fellow tyrants.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

@Bass 'He didn't give anything back to the people'. I know you are a conservative and don't like the idea of handouts but considering his popularity among the poor, they didn't seem to agree with your views. Neither did many people outside the US, particularly from politicians who are not 'fellow tyrants'. We can debate all day about his policies and mistakes, but show a bit more balance. Most people outside the US rightwing don't go reaching for the shotgun above the fireplace whenever they hear the word 'socialist'.

@jim

Has nothing to do with being balanced. If you say that, then the same applies to socialistic liberalism as well. Chavez blamed the US for giving him cancer, now how idiotic and absurd is that. Yeah, I get there are many people that loved him, but the point is, what will his legacy be? I'm talking the bigger picture! It might have looked like he did some good things short term, but long term, he left the country in ruins. Sorry, if liberals don't want to hear the truth, but the fact is, is Valenzuela better off, socially and financially and the answer is, NO.

Cancer?? The CIA?? Black ops?? Bad things done in secret by the US government?? Unheard of!! Never!! Right my dear Bass??

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Yes, a great loss for the world indeed. Evo Morales's speech on TV even made me cry. The world needs more leaders like him who can take their stand. R.I.P.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

I seriously doubt that his cancer was caused by the US. Was Chavez a smoker? Maybe could have tried that old side-splitter 'the exploding cigar'. Did they send all of them to Fidel?

@david

Cancer?? The CIA?? Black ops?? Bad things done in secret by the US government?? Unheard of!! Never!! Right my dear Bass??

I never said, the US government has absolutely no blemishes on their record, but don't tell me there IS a government on this planet that is perfect and definitely don't tell me that Valenzuela politics are honest to the core. Attacking political opposition, silencing the media, threatening and attacking and jailing people that Chavez disagreed with. Allowing and not caring about the out of control crime and poverty. So who is suffering? The people of Valenzuela. They are the ones who got the short end of the stick, David.

@bass 'Allowing and not caring about the out of control crime and poverty'. His record on crime left a lot to be desired but not caring about poverty? I'm sorry Bass, but he was elected largely by the poor and lifted thousands out of extreme poverty ( something he was praised for by many around the world including Ban Ki Moon - but clearly not on the respected, impartial Fox News ). Do you really believe he didn't care about poverty? Do you despise him for not caring about the poor ( I know you have no time for socialists ). I've spent quite a lot of time in China and it is permanent open season on the Chinese for many on this site, but I can honestly say the visceral, one-dimensional reaction of many to the death of Chavez is as bad, if not worse than anything I've heard from the Chinese regarding the US or Japan.

Chavez was a typical left wing dictator, amassing a huge private fortune whilst in power and throwing the odd crumbs to the uneducated masses living in squalor which in turn made them think he was some sort of a saint. Oh, that and him ruining Venezuela's economy and standing shoulder to shoulder with repugnant regimes such as the nuts in Tehran.

Socialism is a pipe dream, proven enough times over to be a catastrophe in practice. Look at the abuse and subsequent misery it has brought to Europe.

Yeah and all the while acquiring billions and siphoning off the people's money.

but he was elected largely by the poor and lifted thousands out of extreme poverty ( something he was praised for by many around the world including Ban Ki Moon - but clearly not on the respected, impartial Fox News ).

Has nothing to do with FOX news. Yes, I know the leftist media wants FOX to fall in line with the other liberal networks to praise Chavez and NOT see ANY faults he had (and he had a lot) or blatantly and purposely not seeing his short-comings. But how's the poverty rate in Valenzuela now?

Do you really believe he didn't care about poverty?

If he did, why is that country in worst shape than 14 years ago before he took office? Poverty has gotten worse under his reign.

Do you despise him for not caring about the poor ( I know you have no time for socialists ).

No, I despised Chavez for exploiting the poor.

I've spent quite a lot of time in China and it is permanent open season on the Chinese for many on this site, but I can honestly say the visceral, one-dimensional reaction of many to the death of Chavez is as bad, if not worse than anything I've heard from the Chinese regarding the US or Japan.

And you don't think There is a reason NOT to have any concerns about many of the things China is doing worldwide?? But comparing China to Valenzuela is like comparing apples and oranges. Chavez was a polarizing figure, no question about that and he will be hugely remembered for his outspoken crassness, more than anything else.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

I will never forget who pissed off the Chinese were when they gave thousands of free tv sets to CUBA, but Castro turned around and gave them to VENEZUELA! Hahaha! Castro said something like hey, you gave them to ME, so I can do what I please, so he was please in giving them to Chavez! My guess, even the funny Chinese can understand our amigos in Havana and Caracas. 2 funny amigos, Castro and Chavez!

@bass Ok.A thoroughly despicable politician in every sense with no redeeming features. Got it. Sorry for wasting your time.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

@jim

Whether you like the man or not is totally irrelevant,That is your right. However, I do need to point out the inconsistencies and inaccurate so called truths about Chavez. He was a man that loved the limelight and loved being an Antagonist, if he could undermine the west at any chance, he never failed to take full advantage of any opportunity that could benefit his political causes.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Bass, the so called WEST has been SCREWING Latin America since the Spanish, Portugues invaded it. He and other Latin American leaders are saying, hey this OIL, etc..is OURS not of EUROPE, the USA etc..oh my god! So Bush etc..have a cow! So, now CHAVEZ is evil for standing up to all the parasites in Europe and in the USA??
