I guess we will see how far promises and second chances go. I hope Yemen gets an even better record than we have for our own releases, but I am not hopeful.
My understanding is that Yemen is dirt poor, and that aspect will make them open to even the likes of even al-Quaida.
Perhaps one those "poverty in no way fosters terrorism" people would like to comment?

likeitis: Amazing how short people's memories can be. Yemen afterall took loads of flak from both Britain and the US for nabbing Al Quaida members in 1997. Yemen caught a ton of Brits already signed on to Al Quaida. Guess what happened? Tony Blair went raving mad at Yemen. Massive campaigns were staged in Britain demanding their release. Yemen tried repeatedly to expalin what AL Quaida was but Mr. Blair just said they were innocent boys on their way to and from Pakistan via their ancestral homeland - Yemen. Just google under any title that includes the word British Yemen and 1997. See what comes up.

I have to admit I never heard of that. But it hardly changes what I said. Just because the Yemeni authorities nabbed some al-Quaida guys in 1997 DOES NOT mean the Yemeni populous is deaf to al-Quaida overtures today.
