[Dylan is a god in the pantheon of rock music. Ask any musician you know about Dylan, they will explain to those of you that are totally clueless. Its like not knowing who the Beatles are.]

Dylan wrote some good songs. But as far as his personal musical talent i'd debate that no matter how much a legend he is supposed to be. He sings like crap. Good songs though and I can see why the hippie generation loves him but don't expect us all to love him. And there is no reason why younger generations not knowing him is bad. It's just a time warp thing. I didn't know a lot of acts my older friends mentioned but were famous. So who cares.

[Gee Bushlover who said anything about bowing to Dylan? He is someone who has been world famous for the last 5 decades.] It's just that the article tries to make it out as if he should have been recognized by everyone and anyone of various nationalities and age groups because he is so well known. Well now we know he's not so his legend is just that. A legend but only for those hippies that lived through it. Maybe it's the writer that is trying to project this as something important because they are a hippie wanna be.

O.K. True story.

I had a good friend in college who was a HUGE Bob Dylan fan. He had a ridiculously large poster in his dorm room.

One night as he and I partook in nature's goodness, his roommate came back to the dorm room with a girl.

She asked who the guy in the poster was and my friend explained that it was Bob Dylan. She replied, "Isn't he the guy that killed all those people and made furniture out of their bones?"

After giving my friend a ration of sh*t about the morality of owning a poster of a human bone furniture maker, I lamented the American educational system.

On topically, cute story. Bob Dylan, while totally innocent of any wrong doing, showed the class that comes from being a true Minnesotan and the police in this incident, also showed restraint and common sense.

All in all, this story restores the faith!

We rarely agree, but on the topic of Bob Dylan's pipes, I'm with you.

That said, I sincerely believe that in a few more decades, Bob Dylan will be looked at more as a poet than a singer and then he will receive the credit he deserves. In my opinion, he is the world's best living poet.

I did not say water aerobics instructor. Clearly you are not aware of the vast differences between those in the profession. Get off the sofa and into the club.

As I mentioned Dylan was an influential on rock music as the Beatles. Everyone knows who they are. They also were political, in fact more so that Dylan. So for the revisionists who try to dismiss the influence of Dylan's work you are just plain clueless. Not knowing who he is is just admitting that you are a Menudo and Hanna Montana fan.

No argument about his singing skills, that is not the point. Neil Young also cannot sing but he is another god. Don"t know who he is? Then just give it up and stick to muzak.

He sings like crap.

Well he has never been regarded as a diva and for most of my life I could not stand him. But a few years back a colleague lent me "Blood On the Tracks" and it was beautiful, the writing, the music and eventually the voice all captured me. It is now on my TOP 10 list.

As for the hippie-hate, that was a long time ago ... let it go, most hippies have.

We agree there. Did I say I didn't know who he is? But usually when I hear "influential" it's a euphemism for "sucks but inspired better musicians."
