Fot the good of the sport, the world begs of you, Blatter - retire! You are just an ancient, egotistical dud, whose ideas on soccer are trapped in the stone ages. Let's all hope the pathetic lack of video replays doesn't rob Japan tonight - or a team in the final!

Blatter is a corrupt old fart. You can't take anything he says seriously but you can't remove him from power either. He is worst than Havelange.

Blatter said it would be “nonsense” for FIFA not to look again at goal-line technology with its rule-making panel.

Wasn't it this same Blatter who was just spouting his own "nonsense" about FIFA NOT needing goal-line technology ?

Did someone kick him in his wallet and wake him up to the reality around him? Did he lose his bet on England or Mexico?

They have a peculiar mandate: Improve the officiating, but do nothing that would cause the game to "stop". Any sort of video review is going to cause a stoppage.

The only way I see this working is a video official monitoring cameras mounted in the goal crossbars and pointing down at the goal line. He controls a light above the goal (or some other visual cue). Close calls get a goal light similar to the way hockey does it. No light, no goal.

    You could even automate it.

RFID chip in the Ball and sensors in the goal, ball goes in far enough triggers the score-board.

Blatter is an arrogant, stupid jerk who is going to face the writing on the wall.

oh no! we lost 'cose of referee errors! oh no! we are so angry! yeah but in the same time we've won matches because of such errors. Hypocrites...

Hahaha... I just said this a few hours ago: the sudden increase in calls for the man's resignation, as well as the possibility of some of the calls being based on corruption and bribery, would have him 'rethink' his position. Now he's acting like it's a simple matter of common sense to open the debate that was only 'not open for debate' a few hours ago. I think it's too late for this guy to save face.

TumbleDry: "oh no! we lost 'cose of referee errors! oh no! we are so angry! yeah but in the same time we've won matches because of such errors. Hypocrites..."

Dude, what are you on (about)? EVERYONE, regardless of what team they were cheering for, know that the mistakes made in the England/Germany and Mexico/Argentina games were completely ridiculous. There have been some pretty bad calls all through this tournament so far, and these were by far the worst. No one's saying they lost because of the calls (and if they are they are equally foolish because there's no way of knowing), but there's no reason why Blatter and Co. SHOULDN'T apologize to the teams offended by such poor refereeing.

“They have their eyes, their perception of the game. So let’s make that better and hope we are going forward,” Blatter said.

In other words, once the pressure subsides a bit after the tournament, he'll go back to his position of not needing to use any kind of technology, and instead staying in the stone ages.

It isn't just these games though - plenty of shocking calls that should never have been made while many others were let with kicks and whatnot that should have been cards. Germany also got screwed with this - Klose being sent off.

Review of goals is a must, review of off-sides that result in goals is a close second, and retroactive red cards for players who embellish fouls would help to clean up the images of a game that has far too many divers.

PS Blatter is a corrupt old fool who should be sent off permanently for doing such a poor simulation of an executive.

They tried the microchip inside the ball thing a couple of years ago but it wasn't accurate enough for them, still that's probably the only thing they can do to confirm if the ball crosses the goal line or any line in the case of corner kicks or throw ins, cause stopping the game every single time to check a replay is just impossible.

Even if they don't stop it but have a referee watching replays all the time, by the moment he notices a mistake it would be just too late to make the call.
