Japan News and Discussion
For business people traveling to Tokyo for a short time, convenience and location are important. Space Design, a leading serviced apartment provider in Tokyo, offers their guests a convenient place to live in main locations around Tokyo. Their two apartment brands, Bureau and B-Site, are located in prime Tokyo locations, such as Shinagawa, Ginza, Shinjuku, Toranomon and Yokohama. A bit of information that you might not find on their website is that Space Design understands how difficult it might be for visitors to feel comfortable in Tokyo and provide customer service to help guests feel at ease.
It's hard for visitors to feel at home in a city that stops for no one. Small things, like a place to buy ingredients to make your favorite food, a religious place to worship, or directions to a familiar restaurant, become important when you're in Tokyo. Nicolas Koreni from the business development department described some of the requests guests ask for while they're in Tokyo.
"Many of our Indian guests are vegetarian and it's difficult for them to eat out in Tokyo. A lot of them will bring food to cook in the room. They also ask for basmati rice. It's very difficult to find it here in Japan because only a few places sell it. Chinese guests aren’t so particular, for example there's not the strict problem of being vegetarian, but one request they make every now and then is a wok. They like to cook with their own cooking supplies. Also, Chinese guests usually want rice cookers in their apartment. We used to offer rice cookers as an optional rental, but now they're in every room. The Indian customers, as well, have learned how to use it and can even make curry inside. Koreans don't have any special requests that are too difficult since there are many places to buy Korean food in Japan. There are some American customers who really like to go to restaurants like Outback and TGI Friday’s while they're here, but others are more adventurous and eat the Japanese food."
There are a variety of requests that Space Design’s staff is prepared to help with and the same level of customer service can be expected at Space Design’s two apartment brands, Bureau and B-Site. Bureau Apartments are executive designed apartments, with designer accents and executive services.
B-site offers visitors the opportunity to experience the same accommodations as the Bureau Apartments on a smaller budget. The goal of providing customers with complete accommodations in a comfortable, convenient environment is achieved by through simple interior designs and a practical use of space.
At one of Space Design’s service apartment buildings, Bureau Shinagawa, guests enter into a lobby complete with a concierge. All Bureau and B-site apartments, 24-hour service is provided to help guests with difficulties they may have with their apartment or for information about Tokyo, but some come complete with staff available to help you in the lobby. Also on the first floor of Bureau Shinagawa is a restaurant, where a complimentary continental breakfast is served to tenants daily, an outdoor patio area for guests to relax, and information about the morning shuttle bus to Shinagawa station provided for guests. These services may resemble a hotel more than an apartment, but the post boxes on the first floor are a reminder that these rooms are apartments, not hotel rooms. Each tenant is provided with their own address during their stay and an individual telephone line in their room.
The decorations and designs of the Bureau and B-site apartments are clean, minimalist and functional. Japanese architect Jun Aoki contributed to the design of the Bureau Shinagawa apartments, to enhance the living space and make each custom-made furniture piece functional. Small fixtures incorporated into the design of the rooms, such as moveable wall shelves and hanging room dividers, make these serviced apartments customized for visitors. Everything a person needs to feel at home in Tokyo is provided in these rooms.
Tokyo has no shortage of restaurants, but cooking at home is sometimes easier than eating out. Each Bureau and B-site room contains everything needed to prepare meals, and the staff can help you locate food from your native country. The multilingual Space Design staff know where to get specialty herbs and spices, or which stores sell basmati rice. The concierge or service call center can help guests get settled into the city quickly and provide information, not only about food ingredients but also about anything related to Tokyo.
