Japan News and Discussion
To face the many challenges facing business nowadays, it is often said that Japan and the rest of the world needs a new type of business leader. Leaders able to act on the global stage, acting decisively, confident enough to take risks and able to inspire those around them.
People just like Kosaku Shima, the head of Hatsushiba Goyo. Shima is the complete opposite of the corporate leaders of yesteryear; direct in his dealings, meritocratic, he arrives at his own conclusions, takes responsibility and embraces change. However, given that Shima is actually a fictional character what really needs to be found is not Kosaku Shima - just go to your local bookstore for that - but people just like him.
One place in Tokyo this new type of business leaders are actively being nurtured is Globis University; sitting at the cutting edge of modern business education its graduates are already providing decisive leadership and directing effective change in corporations worldwide, in a manner that would make Kosaku Shima himself proud.
Earlier this year Globis University announced the launch of an International MBA program, which will from April 2009 see MBA degrees offered in English; the International MBA is designed to transform students into leaders who inspire change while promoting creativity and innovation in society - people that Yoshito Hori, President of Globis University, calls 'Visionary Samurai'.
At the same time Globis University also announced the appointment of Dr. John C. Beck as Dean of the University, the first time non-Japanese to lead a bilingual graduate school of management in Japan. Dr. Beck, a Japan expert, has previously taught at top-ranked business schools around the globe, including the University of California at Los Angeles, Switzerland's IMD, Thunderbird School of Global Management (Arizona), IPADE (Mexico), and at his alma mater, Harvard.
