Bush's National Guard file missing records

WASHINGTON — Documents that should have been written to explain gaps in U.S. President George Bush's Texas Air National Guard service are missing from the military records released about his service in 1972 and 1973, according to regulations and outside experts.

For example, Air National Guard regulations at the time required commanders to write an investigative report for the Air Force when Bush missed his annual medical exam in 1972. The regulations also required commanders to confirm in writing that Bush received counseling after missing five months of drills.

Outside experts suggest that National Guard commanders may not have produced documentation required by their own regulations.

"One of the downfalls back then in the National Guard was that not everyone wanted to be chief of staff of the Air Force. They just wanted to fly or maintain airplanes. So the record keeping could have been better," said retired Maj Gen Paul A Weaver Jr, a former head of the Air National Guard. He said the documents may not have been kept in the first place.

Challenging the government's declaration that no more documents exist, the AP identified five categories of records that should have been generated after Bush skipped his pilot's physical and missed five months of training.

White House spokeswoman Claire Buchan said there were no other documents to explain discrepancies in Bush's files.

Military service during the Vietnam War has become an issue in the presidential election as both candidates debate the current wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Democrat John Kerry commanded a Navy Swift boat in Vietnam and was awarded five medals, including a Silver Star. But his heroism has been challenged in ads by some veterans who support Bush.

The president served stateside in the Air National Guard during Vietnam. Democrats have accused him of shirking his Guard service and getting favored treatment as the son of a prominent Washington figure.

Some experts said it was not unusual for guard commanders to ignore deficiencies by junior officers such as Bush. But they said missing a physical exam, which caused him to be grounded, was not common.

"It's sort of like a code of honor that you didn't go DNF (duty not including flying)," said retired Air Force Col Leonard Walls, who flew 181 combat missions over Vietnam. "There was a lot of pride in keeping combat-ready status."

Bush has said he fulfilled all his obligations. He was in the Texas Air National Guard from 1968 to 1973 and was trained to fly F-102 fighters.

"I'm proud of my service," Bush told a rally last weekend in Lima, Ohio.

Records of Bush's service have significant gaps, starting in 1972. Bush has said he left Texas that year to work on the unsuccessful Senate campaign in Alabama of family friend Winton Blount.

Now we'll never know if Bush was really a war hero or not. Darn! I wonder how those records so conveniently disapeared.

All along the way, anytime that there should be some paperwork that should help show that Cocaine George was actually above board and actually fought through the traffic to get his Good Morning Patch from the Alabama National Guard. But, all we ever hear about is how paperwork has been removed or missing.

He did a good job and had some good chumps that went in and covered his butt.

Makes no difference. He's going to loose the election, even with his cheating ways.

Yep, you had better be right! Because if you are, this old retired Air Force Officer is going to take my pension, and Social Security check and move to either Canada or England for the next 4 years and you can have him and his coward Vice President!

Don -
That's the spirit! When the going gets tough, leave!
But I'll bet you won't renounce your U.S. citizenship when you move to Canada or England 'cause if you do, you won't get your pension and social security.

player - you should listen to your parents.

Go Bush/Cheney!

Isn`t it obvious?

Bush has pandered to his fears But not just his own personal fears, all of America, the most fearful nation on this planet. Listen closely to the constant tnreats, they are specifically motivating threats, read about the constant threats to America through their history, see how they rally around the fictious enemy. Do you remember (maybe Reagan?) 1991 surrounded the Whitehouse with tanks to re-enforce his terrorist attack mantra, then followed that up with launching the first "war on terror" in South America, of course with the approval of an ignorant supporting public caused the deaths of inexcess of 300,000. It is funny to see them running around though full of fear and not being able to distinguish between real threats and those supplied by their gov. for other reasons, ie the banks in New York one day after the DNC. It`s all planned for a gullible public.

I don't see any answers from you on dhe18's question..
Last time I checked I had the right to live where I want to live, and as an American citizen, that fought for my country and that right, so why should I give it up? I don't take exception to my country, but I do take exception to having to live under the possible leadership of a draft dodger/coward that Cheney represents, and the numbskull who appointed him to be second in line to the Presidency. And why would I want to give up my citizenship if I planned to come back here AFTER those turkeys are out of office? No...the going ain't tough and won't be....there is difference in that that you portray, and having to live under the so-called leadership that Junior and his Dickie portray and as a true patriot, I don't need it.

According a news source today, Bush consumed cocaine several times in Camps Davis, when Bush dad was president.
Also he admitted he was dependent of alcohol as he was afraid of women, and consumed cocaine when he was at university.
The family used the money and influence to cover this dark side of Bush kid.
That's the president American choose for president...
What else is being hired about this incompetent?
