Fuji Heavy recalls Subarus in China

That number is just too good to be true. '555' is the cigarette name that Subaru races with, so anyone not knowing this could assume that only 555 vehicles are being recalled! Whoever wrote this article is guilty of misleading weasel wording at the very least, especially as the real numbers are not revealed.

The actual number of cars being recalled according to other Japanese news sources ia ... wait for it... not 500, not 5,000, not 50,000, but 85,160 vehicles!

 

I cannot think that the original Japanese would contain such a misrepresentation. Counting is more specific, eg 10 'dai' for cars. The translator must have done this deliberately, being aware that this information would be published on an inernational site??? Why would it be in the interest of a translator to protect Fuji Heavy Industries?

Can anyone offer a plausible solution here?

While perusing the net looking for this article elsewhere I have discovered to my horror that this article itself is being quoted all over the world, and the source being given for it? Our very own Japan Today and Kyodo!

Quoted everywhere as gospel, with not a grain of truth in it! Spin of the first water!

 

before you get to excited you should realize that 555 is an option package. so there is a 555 Imprezza, 555 Forester, etc. They are recalling the 555 series, not 555 actual cars.

Still it sems very crafty indeed, killing two birds with one stone.

1. They cover up the real numbers, when most notices of recall do actually include some actual figures.

2. They are getting some free cigarett advertising at the same time! :8)

 

If you did not know about Subaru cars then it could be very misleading. They should have put it as "Subaru 555 series Legacy's have been recalled"
