If people own radios in the NK, they're very, very unlikely to be shortwave models. The radios available to most NKs are medium wave, and are fixed to one station. If shortwave models are present, great risk comes at ownership and receiving international broadcasts. Shortwave units are most likely to be owned by high officials who will also not want to rock the boat. Tunable radios have been dropped into NK by balloons some time ago, with little effect.

Since most of the NK military is on shortwave it's designed to Tokyo Rose them into submission.

They use shortwave themselves as well for domestic broadcasts, so there are radiosets out there. Indeed, mostly fixed to one stations, but that is easily changed. From what I heard lots of secret radio's out there, hence a lot of countries, South Korea, the US etc. direct SW-broadcasts to Korea, although most of them will be jammed by NK

Here's a job that Mrs. Abe can do. Perhaps she's behind the whole thing? They could also bring back Koizumi to perform a few Sibelius symphonies to the lyrics from "Hound Dog". It can all be part of that stern response we've been hearing so much about.

Oh no! They're going to ....

...use NHK!

That means some 3 million North Koreans will also be receiving bills for payment of NHK fees in the post, or be taken to court to be made to pay! :-P

i would think the threat of NHK would be enough without the billing.

Imagine what the

programming would be like.

Brekkie with the Black Bus Boys

Talkback with Shintaro Ishihara

Shinzo Abe's Prime-Ministerial Postulations Hour

And for a bit of light entertainment, soundtrack recordings of J-TV variety shows.

The North Koreans would probably think they're better off as they are now.

I thought their shortwave was just for broadcasting internationally. Can you let us know where you heard about this?

Indeed, mostly fixed to one stations, but that is easily changed.

Not according to this article, although I can't claim it's accurate

Not challenging you, but this is not what I've been reading in material on NK recently. Where have you heard this?

British Announcer: Now on NHK CHOSEN Premium, it's "Cooking with Gucci-san" where Gucci will prepare a weeks worth of food in one episode as usual

Expression-less guy: It is Now 7 PM, we shall read news that can only seem decent to you North Koreans and LDP voters

Japan is not so forgiving to foreigners
