I actually respect them for having the 'nads to go into a US meat plant - one of the most dangerous worksites in the developed world, employing illiterate or semi-literate transient labor, and run by crooks - & trying to impose some sort of standards on them.

Japanese inspector #1: Well, I can't find anything amiss, what about you guys?
Japanese inspectors #2, & #3: Neither can we.
Japanese inspector #1: Whaddya say we have some beers and steaks at Outback?
Japanese inspectors #2 & #3: Excellent!

I think it's great. If the beef packing plants are doing nothing wrong and are following the rules, there's no problem. A snap inspection of a beef facitily in no way puts anyone's rights at risk, unlike said facilities if they are doing wrong behind inspectors back.
My only question is, why do these inspectors do snap inspections of US facilities only (or more to the point, foreign ones), while in Japan they seem to alert their targets a week or so in advance, particularly when raiding politicians' offices and yakuza groups?
I wonder if these inspectors went to the plant that recently sent beef with unauthorized bone parts to South Korea, since Japan also similarly does not allow such parts...

The Japanese are going to the USA to learn how to safely package and distribute meat products. "Surprise inspections" ??? Hogwash ! Since when does one private enterprise allow another country onto its premises. Just try and get into a Toyota manufacturing plant here in Japan to see if they've cleared up that steering column mess, or those seatbelts, or those break systems... no chance ! Props to the Americans for running an open and obviously clean ship. If only Japanese companies were as accesable !

It is hoped that one of these places of inspection occurred at the Iowa Beef Packing Plant at Wallula, WA location. It is so filthy and overrun by illegal Mexican workers that I have quit eating Beef for fear that it might have come from that location. I've never seen such filthy conditions in a food plant!

"I've never seen such filthy conditions in a food plant!"I see you are still on your own personal crusade against your own people. Ever been to a chicken slaughter house?, fish packing plant?, hog house? Nope? Then you don't know what the **** you are talking about. Let me put it as simple as I possbily can. Cut up animals, blood and guts everywhere. Simple as that. But yes, ultimately you are right, it is filthy......even in japan.

and it was one of the cleanest places on the planet. (except for the livestock pens) The animals were bled into blood vats, the guts were dumped into disposal containers, the skins were salted and stored in a separate cooler to be picked up by leather manufacturers, the beef was cut into halves, and the sides hung in aging coolers. Everything was steam cleaned before lunch, and at the end of the day. Everyone wore clean white uniforms, and protective white hats. Probably more sterile than most office buildings.

since when does it happen ? all the time. if you want someone to buy your product are you going to tell them to piss off when they ask to inspect it ? what do you think they do in aviation before any carrier starts flying to another port ? they carry out audits making sure everything is up to standard. get real mate, not everyone is out to get the americans in this world, your government likes to perpetuate that myth but. the beef example is included.

Really: Take it down a notch, my friend. While you and I usually see eye-to-eye on issues, this isn't one of them, I guess. If Don has been to and seen the operations of a beef packing plant, and this thread is about beef-packing plants, then I guess he DOES know what the **** he's talking about, now doesn't he? Where did all those other plants come into play?
Sencho: "... cleanest places on the planet..."
I somehow doubt that very much, though the place you may worked in sounds well above the standard.

"since when does it happen ? all the time."
Really ? So Toyota Japan, Japan Tobacco, and Hitachi would have no problems with US officials storming their offices under the guise of some public safety campaign ??? Are you nuts ? I've been at the corporate offices of all the mentioned companies. They have some of the most technologically advanced security systems to keep out the local riff raff, why would they allow some other country's troublemakers onto their premises ? I'd love to see US officials get into that mess over there at Toyota. I mean cmon now, those cars are headed for the US market arent they ? Sorry Cainer... inspections are done on the docks and in various closed door inspections by the purchasing nations. Japan needs to get with the program.
Oh, and this little gem...
"if you want someone to buy your product are you going to tell them to piss off when they ask to inspect it ?"
Ummm, actually, many American beef producers did just that. Lest we forget, no American beef producer went bankrupt because of Japans idiotic beef ban. On the contrary... they went out and found other markets, which are now being supplied. The Japanese ? Are left with astronomical prices at the beef counter... and, they only have themselves to blame.
