Any prize for delivering 1st and making it a 'historical' event?

This is stupid people are going to be lining up to be the first anonymous baby, that baby will become famous, they will be called aya-chan or something, lots of camera angles with cute nurses holding the baby, people asking who would want to give up a baby like this, interviews of random old people that saw the baby, then the mother will come forward tell everyone what a hard life she has and the media will turn into into a tear jerker.

turned in by their parents, but if the parents can not in all honesty support them, this is a good chance to allow the babies to be raised by a family who can care for them.

the number of children killed by parents will decrease with these baby stations. I just hope strange sickos will not be able to break into these boxes before the babies are taken into the hospital.

I'm sure plain-clothes nat'l gov't thugs will be skulking about and reporting back to Abe & Co. if there's anything not shown on the wide shows already. If any colored child ends up in there, especially right off the plane, well they'll have a pretext to shut it down.

...and to the other posters who think this is a stupid idea, would you rather have the babies put in garbage bins, airport lockers or thrown into the river? Because that is what happens all too often here in Japan. The baby hatch is a very good idea, because it gives these unwanted babies a new lease of life.
I'm just wondering how long it will be before some stupid mother tries to shove a 5 year old in there!

I'm wondering how many times JT is going to rehash the same news over and over again.
Next headline will be "Kumamoto hospital finishes installation of Japan's 1st 'baby hatch'", and we will go through exactly the same discussion again.

This is great news. I have heard far too many stories of mothers in Japan who injure or kill their children because they can not bear the burden, or handle the responsibility of parenthood. No child should have to suffer or perish because of inept parents.
Hopefully, Japanese women will not feel overly guilty about using this facility. There is no shame in giving up a child for adoption. In fact, it is quite an honorable gesture to admit that one can not provide for a child, yet still have enough respect for human life to seek out an alternative like konotori no yurikago. My question is this; Is the Kumamoto facility the only one of its kind in all of Japan?

but it will only do so much. But that's the way of anything. I know that here in the States there are several cities and even states that have set up similiar programs. It's not a hatch to slide your baby into, but they children can be turned over to hospitals, firestations and a few other acceptable venues. But there are still the horror stories of babies left in trashcans, plastic bags, pitched in rivers or just left laying on the sidewalk in the light of day. <:-)

Remember that we're not talking about actual responsible adults. Girls are utterly befuddled about what a condom does when some jerk gives them a line about it not feeling natural.
Chances are the first mom will be a 14 year old whose 'boyfriend' has long gone ...

Baby hatch? I wonder how many Japanese wives will dump off their Japanese husbands.
" this is a good chance to allow the babies to be raised by a family who can care for them."
No they won't. there's practically no adoption in Japan. the kids will be dumped into state homes and thrown out at 18. then, no matter how smart they are, they'll have this stigma attached to their name (and family records) making life in Japan miserable. Even Dickens would recognize Japan's social system.

Are there many infants dropped off in Japan each year? It seems at least to be the case in Kumamoto. I guess even though they are left alone, they still count for natality rate.
It's interesting to see how far governments are ready to go to preserve figures and official numbers.
Still, we are talking about kids here, not the number of cows going for beef and others going for milk. Is it so difficult to consider infants as human beings?
