Ya know kids... I'd really love to comment up one side and down the other about this game... but to be honest, it was simply "unwatchable !!!" Good god, there weren't even any fans at the stadium... thus is Japan's reputation for soccer I guess. Anyway, the two goals by Japan, that I saw over and over again on the nightly news, were once again... suspicious ! The corner kick lands at the feet of a completetly unmarked J player who simply puts the ball on goal. The second goal woulda been nice if the keeper hadn't of jumped "out of the way" ! Literally folks, the ball landed just to the center of the goal... no where near a post ! What a farce ! Time to check those swiss bank accounts the syrians probably opened up last week. Too funny !

J player who simply puts the ball on goal.

What the does this mean? If you are going to talk the talk in football use football terms and not americanisms for american sports!

he either scores a goal, puts it in the back of the net, buries it etc but "on goal" means SFA.

"On goal" isn't an Americanism, so stop the American bashing. An American would likely say "put the ball in the net," "put the ball in the goal," or "score." Likewise, for Americans, "shoots on goal" or "shoots on target" means that the shot forced a save from the goalie.

There are a lot of other things to fault in chimpsahoy's post, but this looks like no more than a typo--"o" and "i" are adjacent on the keyboard, after all.

great summary of an unwatchable game. did you watch it? if so, why? this is only the preliminary rounds. Pretty meaningless as the stronger teams are virtually assured of advancing.

And I have said before, maybe invest in a slingbox or something if watching Japanese TV gets you so upset.
