If those suspects were found distributing 'That's So Raven' legit or not, they must pay the price!

Piracy is wrong. I'm proud to only have legit movies, music, games and computer software (at least, I think it's legit... hard to tell these days). People who think it's OK have probably never created any worthwhile intellectual or creative property of their own.

...there are tons of ways to make money. teach portuguese, teach english, start a cafe, work at international establishments...

if you are doing something illegal, out in the open, you're just begging to get arrested. even in japan.

these two should be arrested for plain stupidity.

Nice that you're keeping it legal, but the "proud" part of your blurb are a bit startling... Entertainment companies have been enjoying a gravy train, essentially selling a pieces of plastic (CDs, DVDs) for thirty times their manufacturing cost; they then turned around and tried to keep shops from selling them second-hand, claiming it an infringement (whereas used cars and clothes are just fine to buy and sell); then, you'll recall, they arrogantly ignored the digital revolution by jacking up their prices right before sites like Napster popped up; and then tried to intimidate kids who joined in the sharing by employing authorities to show up at random homes and confiscate computers; and when that wasn't good enough, they tried to make consumers feel 'guilty' and "bad" by maiking announcements during movie previews 'Don't pirate films; every bootleg DVD sold makes George Lucas cry...'

Yeah, yeah, yeah, blah blah, blah, be cool kids, stay in school, don't copy DVDs, the billionaire moguls will never forgive you.

Law and morality are sometimes out of synch with each other.

I don't avoid piracy because it's the law, I avoid it because it's wrong. Don't really want the product, or not happy with the price? DON'T BUY. It's called capitalism. If you think they're making too much money so you can just take it, that's communism and there are many countries in the world where that is the rule and you could move to.

Yes, I'm proud.

I just had dinner tonight with a friend of mine who runs a publishing company company making (I won't name them here) items for sale. It's a two-person operation. He works 16-hours a day. He's currently thinking of taking some of his products digital, but is afraid of the impact of piracy by people like yourself. Once he started thinking that way, and with my encouragement, he got rid of all of his pirated materials (DVDs, music, software) and paid for it all. He's made something of value that people want. If you had made anything of value, you'd likely think the same way too.

It's just pure greed that leads people in wealthy countries to pirating. Your arguments about how much money the company makes are designed so that you don't have to feel bad about what you know is wrong. If you really are just a teenager, you'll hopefully learn better someday.

P.S.

"essentially selling a pieces of plastic (CDs, DVDs) for thirty times their manufacturing cost;"

Are they selling you BLANK CDs for 30 times the manufacturing cost? No? Then you're paying for the data that's on it, not for just the CD.

Who's pirating?

At what point did I say I pirate intellectual property? Did you even read what I wrote?

And do you honestly think it's greed that drives people to copy CDs? Was that what was driving you when you popped a TDK cassette in the old Panasonic boombox and copied your Mr. Mister or Cyndi Lauper discs for your friends? Had you ever taped a song off the radio? Why you greedy little monger. Why weren't the companies complaining then? Think about it....there, have you got it? Yes, that's right, because they began to lose seriois money. Not because it was "wrong".

Look, if it is truly morality that keeps you buying, then you should be aware that you are siding with the corporations, who, while operating inside the law, have shown again and again that they do not act upon morality at all. Being a loyal consumer doesn't make you "right" in any way, pal.

Thanks for helping prove my point.

But seeing as you do pay attention to what's right or wrong in this world, why not lend your keen moral perceptions to helping people who really need it, instead of defending the swollen pockets of Columibia, Tri-Star, Miramax, or Universal, or Disney?

Why weren't the companies complaining back then? Think about it....there, have you got it? Yes, that's right, because they are nowadays losing serious money. Not because copying is "wrong".
