wagyu beef is very tasty. Plus Japanese expats in foreign countries prefer wagyu (in sukiyaki and shabu shabu), so it's not that surprising to see it sought in HK.

Japan has long been exporting beef to high-end markets and restaurants overseas. The US FDA has, for quiet some time now, had inspectors posted at packing plants that exported to the US. They call the shots concerning anything bound for US consumers.

Of course, if anyone else asks for reciprocity, they get told to stuff it and drink the kool aid. "US beef is safe... Trust us... We know what's best.."
