Japanese celebrity windfalls and charity

I doubt these two gave a single yen to any charity.
I know a certain someone will poke their little 'beke' in here, but I find the celebrity windfalls and charity thing veru interesting.

Not a night goes by on TV that talent(less)os fill the screen on game shows, contests etc to play for cash prizes and gifts. Now, the 'logic' in most Western countries follows that celebs are paid a bucket of money anyhow, so the thought of them taking home winnings on game shows in which they compete would be seen as galling to the public at large. They'd be perceived as greedy and grasping.

However, in Japan, there is apparently no concern about these windfalls like this one - special weddings gifts from companies who are able to film at the ceremonies. In contrast to the West, there's no suggestion of opportunism when celebs here make big on these events or reap money and prizes from games on which they appear. The ordinary-folk audience seems all behind them and glad when they take home the big prizes to their mansions, while Taro Public and Sachi Shoppingcart are sitting at home in their tiny aparto slurping convenience-store noodles and worrying about the 22% loan that needs to be paid off.

So - why the adulation for these celebs, and the unquestioning acceptance of their rapacious greed? Is it that the talentos really need the money? Does it go back into their management's coffers? Can't quite work it out!

there have been a lot of celebrity weddings

on TV. and sure they make money.

do they have to donate to charity, just because they are celebrities who make money?

I am sure some of them donate to charity, some don't. But what's the big deal?

blvtzpk answered your inane question, so I don't need to.
Great post blvtzpk.
You are so right. Ambition, even a certain amount of greed, is one thing. But unbridled greed is another.
These celebs/talentos make their livings simply by being well-liked by the public. It would be nice to know some of them recognize that and give something back once in a while.

Evil TV talents. That personally I am sick of seeing everyone on shows cowtow to despite having no apparent talent whatsoever. I don't want to see the rich get richer but this is superficial japan and her TV culture. But that's to be expected in a country where people are proud of how much they paid for something like when I got here and a girl told me she had paid 100,000 yen for a purse that back home a person would have gotten for 30 or 40 bucks and have been proud to have gotten such a deal. Here it's opposite where they are proud to 'look' rich. TV keeps this ridiculous part of the culture alive.

I'm happy for them but to have a televised wedding. Hell your not that important to most people but gotta make the masses of 'followers' happy.

Thing is they don't get paid that much on average.

But whatever, hope they have a happy marriage.

But since they're already officially married, shouldn't the headline be 'Jinnai and Jinnai Celebrate Marriage'...?

where do you get these 30-40 dollar purses that you can clear here for 100,000 dollars? I want a piece of that pie.

still if that's what people want to see on TV then that's whats on TV. You aren't telling me the "reality" shows like Simple Life don't flaunt wealth?

I think best just not to watch much TV. I don't. This is why what celebs do in Japan or elsewhere really bothers me. Seems it bothers some people.

it does bother me and others.

I feel for you. It's why god invented headphones.

And OK, I can see why many people don't like how celebrities, be they talentless Tarento or sports superstars or actors actresses, singers or the like are given so much adulation and get paid so bloody much. But don't think its that much different in Japan than in other countries.

Buddy, I feel your pain, I truly do. As for urko's suggestion, headphones only do so much - I need a blindfold as well. So I leave the room before I start saying "Wasn't she just on another show 5 minutes ago, and hsoting another show two hours earlier?" Internet radio has been my savior - content without the nonsense.

It's simple

If people didn't watch talento on tv everyday - they would cease to be tarento and we wouldn't have to read about them here.

I don't think they are doing anything wrong. If I could be rich by milking a pathetic population glued to crappy tv everyday, I would.

The end.

tomonori could've done a lot better than norika. a lot of people seem to feel that she's doin' him some kind of favour, but the truth of the matter is, his kouhai (read: shinagawa-shouji's shouji & imparsu's tsutsumishita) are all datin' much better lookin', much younger chicks than her. rather than it bein' a case of her losin' her looks, it's really a case of him jumpin' the gun. let's hope for his sake that this marriage ends quickly, so he can remarry with someone half his age, with twice the looks/fertility. from what i understand, her talk'bout wantin' a baby is pure lip-service.

a loss on how people keep saying that she is losing her looks. She looks stuning to me at 35 as she did at 23.

Of course everyone is getting old, but actually she looks much better now. I read one of her books, and it seems she has tried hard to be a better one, both physically and mentally. I think her effort have made her more beautiful.
