can't believe they want to raise prices though. people aren't riding them now, they will lose money if they raise rates.

I took a taxi from Tokyo to Machida the other day. That 35 minute ride cost me 13,020 yen. Please explain the underpaid part to me once more.

i guess all that goes to company boss.
the fact is that taxi driver wages are extremely low. i do feel sorry for them, but i think they should re-think all of their operations before raising prices

A) Most of that money doesn't go to the driver
B) The driver will spend the next several hours looking for his next fare

I thought Taxi in Japan were using Liquified Gas for their car, because it's supposed to pollute less... but cost half of the price of regular gasoline and this is not influence by the price of gasoline...

Am I wrong?

The price of everything that can be used to power a car has gone up quite a bit. So the the taxi companies have had to eat a lot of the cost increases for a while now.

And for the guy who went to Machida from Tokyo, if the cabbie is Tokyo based, he is not allowed to pick up another customer on the way back (unless the customer is going from Machida back to Tokyo ).

Why to the hell a goverment should decide about taxi rates ?!
That must be decided by market only.
