The natural gas that exploded is believed to be methane, which has no color or smell
and no rules or regulations (as per media reports) if so, i think media is not obliged to inform about the investigation process or progress.

...I hope this doesn't mean that we'll be subjected to the usual nit-picking that goes on between companies hired to maintain such things.
I work in a large tech company, and we have many support contracts, and each company markets their support as being all-inclusive, but when disaster (not on this scale, of course) strikes, it seems that they will bend over backwards to avoid fufilling their contracts. They'll try to say that the contract doesn't include such and such (hoping that we don't actually check our copy of said contract), or that the sub-contractor (that THEY hired) was responsible, etc.
I hope that the fact that there was human life lost encourages some more honesty from all parties, and I fear it will encourage the opposite.
This is not a uniquely Japanese problem by any means, but the unique local frustration comes from the fact in a such a non-litigious society as Japan, these companies may not actually have to face any consequences beyond having their CEO bow in front of a bunch of TV cameras.

There's some unique videos of the explosion out there. Anyone seen any or know where they reside?

I'm just curious what kind of qualifications make the "police" the resident Police...Authorities on investigating accidents...?
Here we have a bunch of cops investigation an explosion, a kind of incident that should be being investigated by actual experts in fire-science or related field. It's amazing how the JN police have the expertise to investigate every imaginable accident under the sun, from airline crashes to the insider trading...
I can't think of any other country in the world where one dept investigates all types of accidents.
And if police are investigating, they are therefor assuming some kind of criminal responsibility, which isn't necessarily present in most airline accidents, which brings up other safety questions as how they can therefor improve public / transportation safety by strictly ruling in or out crimnal neglegence.
