A former professor who spearheaded an economic resurgence in Peru. Well liked and respected at the last APEC Forum he last attended, then bolted from office immediately after the APEC affair. I looked at the situation more closely and things did turn up.
I think Interpol handled this case w/ great professionalism and restraint. The story hasn't played out, and if Chile does help former Pres. Fujimori, Japan will owe big time for the favor. Gee, cooperation trans-Pacific.
there's no money in J-politics anymore.

"I would like to show my gratitude to Japan, the home of my parents, by making use of my experiences as president, when I learned how to embezzle and cheat and misuse my power for personal gain. I think I will fit in well into the political life of Japan, dont you?"

creatividades ... I'd have to side with you on that one ....
If we are taking a count of capable south american leaders, I'd have to put fujimori at the top.
I bet 'la cici' will be having breakdowns & fits over this, back in Peru. I do miss her rants on nightly tv, if only for the humour factor.

Why do they want a criminal (OK, he broke the law, so he's under house arrest, right?) to run?
Has the LDP gone mad?

If he can steal as much money form Japan as he did from peru. This is absolutely a side splitter. Will people actually vote for him? As an aside, until he left Japan I used to think he was a pretty clever guy getting asylum in Japan and all. I think he's probably about to get what's coming.

Isn't there a law that says that a person cannot have other nationality and the Japanese one?
Fujimori was known as "El chino" (the chinese), so maybe he could apply for one more.
Why is the Foreign Minister of Japan defending a criminal that is not in his country? Is the Chilean government that morally corrupt?

It's not the LDP. It's the PNP, or People's New Party, which came into being sometime in 2005 after a bunch of members of the LDP left in a huff because Koizumi wouldn't back down on trimming the severely bloated postal system.

I apologise for the mistake in political party, but still, I don't understand how anyone would want Fujimori to run.
Soon there will be debates in the diet about what the official language of Japan is...
I can't believe they are doing this, but you know what's scary? He may actually get elected.
Interesting suggestion.
But, of the two, I'd vote for Fujimori.
no, because no matter what the platform or issues, you'll vote for the gaijin. You would vote for me,which is pretty hilarious, don't you think?

Outside of a few of their friends and enemies, i.e. the public, who heard of the People's New Party before they asked Fujimori to run? Now lots and lots of people are saying People's New Party faster than you can say
Publicity Stunt.
Assuming a lawyer working with the People's New Party knows the electoral laws of Japan (I know, a big assumption), and that goochii is right to say candidates must be physically in Japan during an election campaign, then what is this but a publicity stunt to get the People's New Party name in all the newspapers?

Kokumin Shinto or People New party reminds me of Mr. Samurai Fujimori starting political career ,in the late 80's and thru 90's ,etc.
Everything about him ,his ideas, his looks (worse than gaigin by local peruvian racists) his party and his goals to overcome PERU's horrendus chaos beyond belief at that point in time.....Hey Mr. Fujimori seemed PREPOSTEROUS and too good to be true !
No one had ever heard of him , "chinaman" He was not even "whitee" >He did not belong to no tradicional political party....etc. ,etc. ...hey he was considered easyly more of a joke than a potential presidential contender of PORTEND.
And yet , he was, he won the presidency against all odds ,even the blue eyed whitee candidates of the hightess Peru"s pedigree and traditional partydocracy ,these creoles who traditionally have pimped Peru for more than 500 yrs.
Mr. Fujimori detractors, starting with the arms, weapons manufacturers, dealers ,etc.. And drug buyers addicts ,and all sorts of raptors ,predators such as international loan sharks , etc.,etc. they all had to close shop overnight.
For ever since Mr. Fujimori had priorized PERU's education ,health, development, etc. ever since then these detrartors do not forget to persecute A great stateman.
A Samurai who defeated terror , returned a litte bit of our indentity, a man knows hard work.
SAMURAI RULES!!!
