Crocs have taken over! They are quite ubiquitous. Still there are plenty of imitations out there so maybe those imitators should get sued too.

Chinese imitations?

The wearers look like they should be gardening in Oompaloompa-land.

ehehe!
The rubber thingies are hideous.
For typhoon days, I'd rather wear a teva pair but can't find 'cute' ones :p

Just watch where you step puh-leeze. And the kids and their shoes of course.

The Croc Epidemic
How a heinous synthetic shoe conquered the world.

Tales have come in from Crocs-haters in Sweden about children whose Crocs melt on escalators or get otherwise stuck in the cracks between steps; the most horrific of these involves a little boy whose toe got "pulled off" when his Crocs got stuck. A crock? Probably.

What is more certain is that some podiatrists are alarmed by their patients' fanatical embrace of Crocs; most Crocs, doctors point out, provide only moderate support. "I'll get people with strained arches because they've been running around in Crocs for five days," said Arnold Ravick, a doctor of podiatric medicine in Washington, D.C., and a spokesman for the American Podiatric Medical Association. "When it comes to shoes, people mistake comfort for support. Comfort is fool's gold—a soft gushy shoe that makes your arches collapse," he told me. "Crocs are popular because they're inexpensive and interchangeable. For people with certain problems, they can be a good shoe. Are they good for your foot, in general? No."

...almost all escalators have a hard brush strip over the gap between the moving stair and the metal wall. This was because so many kids were getting their wellies stuck in the gap, and getting their toes sucked into the machine. The brush means that the shoe can not get stuck - you feel it rubbing and move your feet into the center of the step. Of course, escalator manufacturers worldwide know of this issues, but it hasn't been a big issue in Japan because wellies weren't popular here. Now that crocs have the same propensity for getting stuck expect to see brushy escalators come into fashion in Japan.

PS: Crocs are ugly...but even this will pass.

There are many types of footwear that could be considered dangerous for escalator riders: flip-flops, high heels, sandals, clogs, heelies, Birks, and any shoe with laces untied. Clothing can also cause problems. It pays to be very careful. I like the Crocs because I do not wear shoes in my house and they are easy to slip on when I am going outside. I can also toss them in my washing machine. Ugly yes, but very practical.

All these accidents are simply karma for extremely bad fashion.

You don't have to be wearing Crocs to get caught...
I went by an elevator (in a North American shopping mall) that was stopped once...only to find out that earlier that afternoon a little boy had got his finger caught at the top, wherethe steps disappear under the floor.

Poor kid lost a finger...

Watch your kids in public. It's simple! Teach your kids not to climb on stairs. Punish them if you see it. Pay attention. Watch, Teach, and Protect. This is a PARENTS Job.

Hang on a minute. These are just shoes. They cannot be responsible for the idiots that wear them. Lets just wrap all of the oblivious Japanese in cotton wool before they venture outside. That should do nicely

Yeah! But I can name a country where the same thing occurs but the victim requires 100 times the compensation or more!
