Maeda's lawyer says there was no intent to kill. The only thing I'm worried about is that the Judge will believe him. This is Japan after all. People take things at face value.

yes they do. and the judge took the prosecution's case at face value.

she was going shopping in department stores using stolen creditcards. if the cops had a brain between them they would have put a trace on any creditcards belonging to the former lover and then simply apprehended the killer when she was swiping for her disguises and cash outs to buy fake ids from the yaks.
if it were that easy, they would have done it. that simple.
Yes. Just like it was easy for 9 cops to catch the Nova girl slayer right? Just like it was easy to coerce a confession out of innocent people right? Just admit you are wrong and the cops wouldn't know where to start investigating if X marked the spot.
not as simple as you make it. sure they made mistakes in the Nova case no question about that. you don't know when she used the cards, did they know that there was a crime committed before Maeda used the cards? And do you think it is that easy to trace every credit card purchase or transaction? I mean you can withdraw up to 500K from a 7-11 and take off long before cops can get there. And if something went wrong with the transaction you ditch the card and run. Its not that simple is it. sure the cops cock-up here, no question that they do. but not every case.
Its that easy Urko. I have worked in the industry and assisted police. Its just hard for Jcops. They did not even think of profiling the suspect, checking spending habits and locations on stolen creditcards. It is real simple. The very is "using" that implies many times. Very easy sting operation if they had of gotten off their asses.

Hm, so you say that checking were she used the credit card does not make the search easier, at least you know in what area to look.
it would not surprise me if the credit card records would lead to the place she was caught.
you work in the industry? really? how do you know what the j-cops did or did not do though? I watch cops shows and I would suggest the same stuff you did, without working in the "industry". So you think that the credit card companies would not stop the credit cards after the woman was found dead? Who would pay the monthly charges if Maeda was "using' the cards through the whole 2 year period? Also do you think she would use a card at the same place twice? How would you set up the "sting"? You work in the TV cop drama industry?
I mean of course you can go back and track where she "was", where she used the card, as in she is in Tokyo or Osaka or something but that is about it. Unless she used the cards everyday in the same area (but see what I said above about Credit Card payments)

Give it a rest Urko. You are clutching at straws yet again. The cops couldn't be bothered and thats all is too it. stop wasting time with your rambling on about nothing.
how do you know the cops could not be bothered? you assume this because your experience in the "industry"? I mean you make it seem easy to catch someone who uses someone elses card. I bring up reasons refuting this and all you can come back with is "clutching at straws"?

This is almost certainly a mistranslation. "No intent to kill" was likely "acted in the heat of passion" in the original.
The problem is that you are just arguing for argument sake. The facts are that Jcops cant do real police work and wait for confessions *real or coerced* or dumb luck to solve their crimes. their track record speaks volumes whereas your argument is only based on the fact that you have nothing better to do with your time than trying to out wit people on web blogs using nothing but hypothetical situations that and subtle insults to get your flimsy baseless point across. All in all the way your present your case is as good as Japanese police work.

| Ouch! How will Urko respond to that? | |

Not sure if this is going to sound too critical of Japantoday ... but often, reading the debates, fights and insults by the readers is more interesting than the news reports!
