It's a verb, meaning to "cop out" or unceremoniously quit, coined right after Shinzo Abe's resignation. It was supposedly all over the blogs, but accusations surfaced the Asahi Shimbun may have been behind it.

"gyakugire" (becoming offensive instead of reflecting).
I thought it meant flipping out at someone who scolds you.

I like:
Kimoi - that's short for kimochi warui, or bad feeling.
Anburubaburu - combination of anbiribaburu ( unbelievable ) and buruu ( feeling blue ).
dasakakoii...I mean, is it dasai or is it kakoii???
Make up your melons!!
(then there's erokakoii, kimokakoii, etc)

I was taught "K.Y." the other day. "Kuki yomenai" it means, (someone who can't read social situations.)
I thought it stood for Kojima Yoshio :P

yeah gyakugire means means gyaku ni kireru, so as you say flipping out on someone who was getting angry at you.
Lots of the Initial words going round at the moment, KY, PK ,AY, etc, I think they are called gyaru-go because they were coined by gyaru, but the are probably similar to cool biz and will not stay for long. PK stands for Pantsu ga Kuikonderu, usually referring to someone that is overweight and their underwear are riding up their crack. You would be surprised how many chances the teenagers find to use it. AY, atama ga yowai, as in she isn't very smart.
A couple that I've always thought should be in the kojien but never make it are noopan and gyaranduu. They are pretty widely used, there are no other words for them and I would say over half of the population would understand noopan.
