Is he stealing them? I thought when you put your 1000 yen in the slot and 50 come out, you are buying them. The machines are setup to use "3" tokens each. Simple math. Does 50\3? Maybe in Japan it works, but in Western style math it doesn't. At 20 yen a token, I normally that them home.

This has happened before

The speculation, as I recall, was that he didn't want his family to be shamed. Guess the easiest way would be to post his photo on the internet, but that would have all the human rights advocates in a tizzy.

Hehe. Good on him. Obviously they dont need his identity to jail him over this minor crime.

Which would have served no purpose whatsoever. He is caught. He will serve time. Who cares about his identity?

Yeah, let`s keep him in the slammer for a total of 14 months at taxpayer expense for this "heinous" crime.
Fingerprints would have helped in this case.

Now that's a bit steep. Is the guy homeless ? Could set an interesting precidence if so - homeless people finally getting state support ? Thought, I wonder after how many years of repeatidly doing this, would he survive before he would be hung ?

The sentence may be too much, but I am not sure if having his identity would have changed anything at all. Why should it? To make the "authorities" feel all authoritive?
