2,240 police, 460 patrol cars, copter mobilized for car chase in Osaka

OSAKA — Police on Thursday arrested a wanted man after a two-hour car chase that involved 2,240 officers, 460 police cars and one helicopter. Hirofumi Fukuda, 27, who had been wanted for assaulting police officers on Jan 21, was arrested after a chase through central Osaka. Around 11 a.m., police received an emergency call saying that a car was driving recklessly, ignoring traffic lights. When a patrol car approached the vehicle in question, it took off.

Police were mobilized throughout the area and a helicopter called in. The chase ended when Fukuda's car crashed into a bridge column. He sustained light injuries but no one else was injured in the chase.

Sounds like a Charlie Chaplin movie. I bet they had those funny hats, mustaches and billy clubs, too.

Hmmm...that's roughly about 5 J-cops per car. Talk about CAR POOLING! Good for the environment I suppose.

What is absurd is that in total absence of detail, JT readers take one number, imagine whatever they like, and take that as truth.

The mob is indeed a scary thing. Its like a gang of literate monkeys, needing nothing more than the right word in print to attack other monkeys.

"mobilized"

Probably means, as we used to say "standing by to stand by". It is a big, important-sounding word used by those who spend their days in nice offices to make it look as though they are doing something. When I was in the Marines, there were several times I was "mobilized" in response to some bit of BS or other, and never once did any of us actually DO anything - we were just "there" in case "something" needed to be "done". I am sure the same thing happened here - 2,240 cops were not frantically running around all over Osaka actively pursuing this one guy, or even in a desperate search for him. An APB was put out, and everyone was told to "be on their toes" and "keep an eye out". That's all. Other than that, it was business as usual, they still all gathered in the ramen shop to swap bad jokes, they just tried to look more alert than usual while doing so.

Well, I am glad they got the chinpira. The show of force will be a sign to similarly inclined creeps they won't escape the arm of the law.

It takes 2240 police officers to take down 1 guy? There is something seriously wrong with that.

2240 police officers?!?!? It has to be a lie! There isn't that many police in Osaka. That is nearly the national total of police, isn't it?
