honda, nissan are making much more sexy cars these days. like electric2004 says, this looks like a Mercedes box car, not a sports coupe.

but I can't justify dropping $60k + on a car that doesn't break the sound barrier.

If you can find me a car that can go faster than 1238km/h for $60K, I'll buy one for you too.

Lexus 430/ Toyota Soarer blah blah blah...yawn

Personally I think that Lexus is just trying to squeeze another few years out of a tired old design by adding an electric assist to the drive-line and flogging it off as a "hybrid".......but what do I know?!!!?

BTW: It was interesting how quickly the design dated on that car. First year out it was all "Ohhh AHHH", second year "so bland I can't see it anymore".

This is basically the convertible Soarer right? it is a tired old design. I didn't like it when it was "new" actually. What happened to the Supra/Celica? Now that was a cool car.

this model had dual turbo so that I can go grocery shopping efficiently.

To Urko:

The guy heading the Supra/Celica Div. was instrumental in the creation of the Hybrid.

I can't speak for the Lexus Div., but car manufacturing in general. The Lexus 430 would be their "flagship" car, but the bread and butter business is in their sedans (more practical, family friendly, etc..). Thus, the 430 must have similar looks as their "flagship" sedan since the choices are differences rather than two different looking cars.

Honda came out w/ the NSX which looked very different from all other cars they made - it would have been safer to have built a car similar to the Acura shell. I personally really liked and still like the NSX sports car for its true adherence to a "high performance car".

The Supra/Celica was indeed a nice car. Great design, great lines, and a decent engine for the price. Sadly, it was sent to pasture with the last production model rolling off the line sometime in 2005. Poor sales apparently.

If you look real close.....

and have been in Japan a little while, this is just a hybrid Toyota Soarer, model design from 2001. Are you kidding me? A VERY expensive Soarer that is being pawned off as the "newest" Lexus. Ha....8 year old design, with a split power plant having a battery. Great. You can be green (slightly) in a 4 seat 2200 Kg coupe. Great stuff.

Give me a Toyota Crown Athlete, lowered a little, in black please....That would be a smooth cruiser in the US (and no, the LS in the US is the Celsior model in Japan as a Toyota) or here in J-land...

ciao

My wife really wants one

but at the price we would have to live in it. I have a friend in the States who has one it's truly a beautifully made car. Everything inside is top notch and puts all of the european luxury cars to shame. Yards of matching hide and matched grain wood, just beautiful.
