I use an iPhone 'on the go' and a Kindle at home or on vacation. I can see massive advantages to eReaders and the main one is portability. Since I have my iPhone with me at all times, when I have to wait around, I just pick up a book and read where I left off.
Another advantage is that it is a lot easier to read from a Kindle in your hand than a book. Especially if it is a big book.
Don't get me wrong, I have a ton (probably literally) of 'dead-tree' books. And that brings me to another advatage of eReaders: storage.
That's never been an influence in my reading experience.
I can see that the lending issue is a drawback. I'd like to see the sellers address this issue in a 'fair' way.
Finally, being in Japan makes it difficult to search out and find the book you want. eReaders can help here.

If they are in entertainment areas, how do they promote teenage prostitution. I would say they would more likely promote normal prostitution because teenagers aren't allowed to drink.
Is this backed by the facts? I wonder.

Well that's your first mistake. Malt's has never been a "quality beer". Premium isn't bad, but it still doesn't stand up to Ebisu or Sapporo.
And um, why does the government tax malt content? Is malt the root of all evil? I can understand tax on alcohol content, but not malt.
Also, don't get me started on protecting the shochu makers. Pathetic.

Not a good analogy at all.
Charging by weight is fair in the way that it is directly proportional to fuel used. However, it is a lot more complicated than that. Having a half empty plane is also wasteful. Hence the airlines have a very complicated set of incentives to optimize occupancy etc.
Also, I don't think the airlines want to make the publicity gaff of weighing people.
My idea would be to have several 'wide seats' installed. Obese people could book these seats beforehand or take their luck at the check-in. Once they are gone, then the passenger can't fly that flight (which would be an incentive to book the seat beforehand).
Ha ha, they could have the equivalent of the hand luggage measure in the airport. If you can sit in this 'sample' seat without flab hanging over, then you are eligible for a regular seat. Otherwise you have to have a wide seat. ;-)

I'm pretty sure that some European airlines already require obese passengers to buy a second seat, although I think they may only charge 1.5 times the single seat price. Sounds sensible to me.

That's completely wrong. Japan would benefit totally from food imports without tariffs. They pay through the nose already for rice. If Japan's agriculture isn't efficient (which it obviously isn't) then import from countries that are.
Dependency on foreign food is a fact of life in Japan. The amount of dependency is only academic.

Well I agree that in family restaurants and fast food places it would be good to have the joules shown. But in many places that I like to eat for a night out, it's not practical.

Yes, that is because, more than most countries, this country still loves its paper. They still use faxes! Dead tree lives on in Japan.

The guy is a moron.
What I want to know is how he was planning on turning on the camera. The article doesn't mention that there were any videos of girls on it.

A movie followed a dinner is a good date for these nervous J-guys. 2 hours of becoming comfortable in her presence followed by talking of dinner. You even have a good starter conversation about the movie.

Check out the Kindle. It's light, easy to read and WiFi (sometimes 3G) aware. So easy to download books and carry one thing around.
It's not rocket science, but just like music, books too will be digital.

Actually, most economists agree that the yen is at the correct level. Rather than trying to intervene with the currency - which is ultimately hopeless, Japan needs to try to be less export dependent.

No.
Yes, it was. Japan had rejected "unconditional surrender". They were planning to fight until the end.
