Yeah, I have a problem with this one as well. I would doubt that many women would go to a coffee shop to pick up. Which also suggests that men picking up at coffee shops bother/annoy several potentials before the find someone who is interested.
At least on the internet both parties are interested. Also, I know of a couple of very successful matches arising from the internet that I would doubt would have happened otherwise.

The problem isn't the uniform.

Japan should accept that it is pointless and unachievable to have 100% food self-sufficiency. It's a complete waste of time.
They would be better to support such CITES initiatives to cut down on Bluefin tuna so that the 'world' will be 100% self sufficient.

Hmmmm. I think posters here should read a bit more closely.
They didn't leave the kid alone at all.
They left her grandmother to look after her, but she went out of the house. It's her fault.

Jumping on a bandwagon more likely. Put up the proof or be quiet. This should be easy to prove if there is a fault.

Agree.
So why were they slow in the US and not Europe? Litigation concerns? Anyway, this implies failure to act but not deafness.

I like the quote: "The report on her husband has also reinforced the impression that..."
Reinforced the impression in who? Who has the impression? Is it the anonymous author of this piece? Or is it the reader.. "ah, yappari! Sou desu, ne! yappa..."

Obviously you have trouble reading: "I pulled the earphones out of my ears again, more slowly this time. There was no sound coming from them; not even a low buzz."
The guy was a jerk. He couldn't hear the music.

So which is first the chicken or the egg. The US's public transport systems are woeful. But is it because everybody wants to drive or does everybody want to drive as a result?
Posted in: The fact of the matter is Japan is about 100 years in advance as far as mass transit system compared with ours. They were able to have trains that can go up to speeds of 125 miles (200 kilometers) an hour some 50 years ago. And what are we doing?

Like drug companies, you can't expect companies that spend millions of dollars on GMO research to give it away for free. Be sensible. However, less like drug companies, many GMO firms give away seeds to the third world.
Organic farming is a waste of resources and doesn't produce a better product.
Don't even think about reducing the population, it's a red herring and an individual choice. Generally poor families have more children to work on the farm.

Absolutely not. Of course you have the right to criticize. Let's not hide behind the cultural sensitivity card here. Most Japanese would think the same about the barbarity of this and come from the same cultural background.
But let's step back. The makers of the documentary didn't set out to criticize the people of Taiji. They set out to expose them. Now they are afraid the people of Japan will see this and criticize the people of Taiji for being barbaric by doing what they have done for generations.

You make it sound like there is a cultural bias in this documentary. Like it's Western commentators dictating there views. So wrong; things are a lot less clear cut and many Japanese detest this slaughter.
The barbarism is there to see in the film and if you are 'human' you will see that. I suggest you see the film.

Well I would have to disagree there. I think many Japanese would be interested in this documentary. However, maybe they are afraid to watch, because they may learn something bad about their fellow countrymen but you can't blame the documentary makers there. You can only blame the people who want to put their heads in the sand.

You contradict yourself:
Making a documentary raises public awareness and educates in one of the most effective ways possible.

Actually not true. Hungry Africans are the main beneficiary. The fact is that GMO's are essential if we are to feed the planet in the years ahead.

Ummm, isn't making a documentary a means to educate the Japanese people. Am I missing something here? I believe that not so many Japanese people know about this and would be appalled by it. This is an excellent way to let them know.
Now they can react in way that they see it as they are being attacked (us Japanese vs. outside). Or they can vent their anger at the few selfish fishermen that make them look bad.

Food self-sufficiency for Japan is a ridiculous aim that shouldn't be given any thought. Japan will never be food self-sufficient and it shouldn't even try. If quality food is what is driving this then it should import from quality producers. Also more thought should be given to using GMO's to enhance food production in the world. This would increase the world's ability to produce food.
