    focusing on citizen-level public diplomacy

Who believes any of this dreamy dribble drabble? Public diplomacy in Japan is strictly the domain of floppy cartoon characters.

Why even rescue victims from burning buildings if they will be turned away by 17 hospitals and die in transit? Could this be the real reason for female "fire fighters", or are there simply no more real men left in Japan? And why the hell do the cartoon puppets look angry while they are smiling? Megumi, if you can answer these questions, you can put out my fire.

his threats and bluster keep him famous and feed his ego.

    Exactly.

Ignore Kim. Why any nation continues to coddle North Korea is beyond me. So the South finally figured out they were helping whack job Kim feed his army with emergency food? Good. Embargoes & sanctions on all trade should have been implemented long ago. Let the Chinese deal with NK.

it grossly underestimates the future wealth-creating capacity of the nation

All markets depend on consumer confidence and projected earnings. The US has the lowest savings rate of any industrial nation. "Wealth creation" has been the myth of endless home equity lines of credit to refinance everything under the sun, including Wall Street. Any new "wealth creation" (debt driven froth) is no match for the fundamental systemic rot in banking, decades of Wall Street scamongering, the mortgage meltdown and credit crisis, dollar devaluation and job destruction, as the tsunami eventually sucks bankrupt nations out to sea.

    'catastrophe'

The 'catastrophe' is spending more than we can ever pay back. If the US was an individual, what would Uncle Sam's credit rating be.. ZER0? If the US is even able to survive bankruptcy, the interest alone on the national debt will be far worse because of the "stimulus plan" when obama is out of office than today. This is the 'catastrophe'. America will become an economic basket case like Zimbabwe.

Japanese is an indirect language, and meanings are understood or implied. English is a direct language, where meanings are routinely spelled out. Because of this, I think it is hard for Japanese understand the meaning they are trying to/need to express within the context of the English language, because culturally, meanings convey different feelings. Language cannot be divorced from cultural context.

There will be, over time, a substantial inflationary effect, which will depreciate retirements and savings. Sooner or later, the value of the U.S. currency will be depreciated...

    3,000 students from business schools

Business schools? I hope the school taught them to forget everything they learned, roll up their white sleeve shirts and get used to difficult, dangerous and dirty if they want to survive the coming depression.

don't bring God into this this!

You hear that God?... Stay out of it!! Why should YOU care if a mother wopps her baby on the floor, or for that matter, dumps it in a toilet to die? Yup, that's what we need; less God, less humanity, less love, less life...more of the same.

What would Darwin have concluded if he observed mothers in the animal world turning on their offspring and doing this kind of abuse to their young? Would their even be a theory of evolution? This social disease, this rot in the human soul, is a result of a wholesale divorce of humanity from the natural world. The promise of the material to bring happiness has come crashing down for millions worldwide. Hopefully, its a chance to examine what the hell we are doing to ourselves and others. Without nature their is no nurture; only meaningless lives devoid of the spiritual, perpetuating the myth of materialism, consumerism and banal urbanity to the next hapless generation.

"...driven to the convenience store... where he bought a pair of scissors.."

What is a J-convenience store doing selling deadly weapons **"assault scissors!" **at such a late hour when belligerent intoxicated morons can get their hands on them? This "scissor loophole" that allows dangerous criminals (disguised as otherwise normal 33 year old males) to buy such weapons late at night must be closed at once by amending the sword, knife and scissor laws in Japan.

An economy (risk) in motion (greed) tends to stay in motion unless acted upon by an opposing force(fear). Recession/depression are fear induced homeostatic feedbacks that check irrational consumption (destructive risk) and point the way back to equilibrium ("sustainable greed"?!...an oxymoron). Because change is the only constant in the universe, an economy at equilibrium tends to stagnate indefinitely unless kicked in the ass (war), then the cycle starts all over again. If we cant pay back dollars, the economy will eventually take blood.

A baby is a human before it is born and after it is born. As a human, it has rights before it is born and after. Who speaks for the healthy late term baby ripped from the womb to die a slow lonely death in a cold plastic hospital bin, as its little lungs gasp for air, sometimes for an agonizing 30 or 40 minutes before succumbing to suffocation ? We don't even treat dogs that badly when they have to be put be euthanized! Taking an innocent human life is murder. Legalized murder is still murder. Abortion is murder.

Why the T-34? The T-34 was a Soviet medium tank produced from 1940 to 1958. Surely Japan can think of something more original for a remote control net shooting toy that would be useless against an intruder with a sharp knife.

Is it easier to kill or give life? How come federal funding for adoptions is never a part of the hallowed final solution that the culture of death wants to impose on the world? There are so many couples that cant have kids, or who have suffered the tragic death of a child, that would love to adopt a baby. Sure, using tax money to tear more unborn children limb from limb out of the womb and into the trash... what a great idea! As a culture, we murder and trash our children, and expect those saved from the holocaust to be healthy mentally and spiritually? The damning message to our children is: You too could have been slaughtered in the womb like a chunk of unwanted meat. No wonder teen suicide is so high.

Nothing yet. He hasnt done anything but win a race. Trying to learn too much before he's really done anything is like betting that a prize race horse can also pull a plow.
