Although there are many virtues, this is the really sad side of Japanese group centered society.
A child is locked into his pier group from birth. If a nasty nick name sticks at a young age or they are kept outside of the group, this will dog a child through school and even life. Even the most subtle pier neglect ostracizes a child from social acceptance and weighs heavy on their identity and self respect. This is why there are so many hikikomori kids and/or childhood suicides.

Without the ladies in the background, there would be very little farming done in Hokkaido and that much less food on your plate.
When you visit, you wont find a man doing this kind of field work.
With all the work to do by herself, no children left in the village and the harsh Hokkaido winters, She probably doest think so. Most of these inaka villages are dead or dying. This is why Jwomen refuse to marry farmers.

What do you bet the the same politicos who slam insurance companies for sky high health insurance premiums and for denying insurance for pre-existing conditions have comfortable stock positions in said insurance companies? Forcing everyone to buy insurance serves who exactly? Bailing out the banks so they can lend our own money back to us at interest serves who exactly? Giving billions to the failed auto industry without a plan to pay back the tax payer serves who exactly? Sending our 18 year olds to die in Iraq serves who? If you cant drive in America, you pretty much cant have a job. Without a job, you cant live. So while your at it Baucus, you can force ("require") auto insurers to sell insurance to DUI drivers and those with a history of "pre-existing" moving traffic violations without charging prohibitively expensive premiums.
Lets get govt involved in every aspect of our lives until we become so dependent on govt for solutions that we wont be able to function independently at all on our own !! Fines up to $3,800 for non compliance are fine with us! Do what ever it takes in govt and the media to brain wash us and shape our behavior until we no longer need to make wise choices for ourselves! Thank you for being so concerned about your constituents that we can simply trust you to do the right thing... like you did bailing out the banks, Wall Street and the auto industry!
