One could give a pair of these to the student(s) in class who are not doing well. This way, if they are not focused, the instructor can notice right away and help them focus. ^_^ Seriously, I might use these for that. Go Japan.

Free speech also gives China the right to complain, and their request is understandable. Being that China is Japan's next door neighbor, Japan might consider asking the Uyghurs to kindly find another place to convene, like somewhere in the Middle East which would be more culturally appropriate.

The DPJ understands the situation better than Hatoyama.

The president of Iran says, "The Islamic Republic of Iran is fundamentally opposed to the atomic bomb and weapons of mass destruction," but, given that they are Islamic and the source text of Islam, the Quran, promotes deceit when necessary in order to protect essential self interests from unbelievers, I suppose that he would lie about not wanting an atomic bomb now in order to protect the national security interests of having an atomic bomb later where this weapon would be a forcible means of deterrence and threat for creating greater independence from foreign interests and perhaps allowing them to push Israel out of the Middle East. See verse below:

"Those who believe should not take unbelievers as their friends in preference to those who believe-- and whoever does so should have no (expectations) of Allah-- unless to safeguard yourselves against them." --The Family of Imram (Al-'Imran:Madani), 28

This "peace, peace" type of talk is probably not to be trusted. Let's not forget their leadership's threats against Israel.

It seems that sometimes decent people are let die to prove the ill quality of others.

One can empathize, but making nuclear technology and its administration safer would seem to be the better option here. There will always be risk with nuclear technology, even after the appropriate improvements are made. But to make a nation's energy availability more dependent on another nation or nations than necessary would seem to present the greater long term risk.

It would be interesting to see whether they have put 1080p CCDs in security cameras yet. 690 lines is not HD.

He then, in fractured Japanese, praised his boss in front of his wife as being 'great to work for.'

Did the foreign worker say, "he is great to work for" or "this company is great to work for?" Japanese know what flattery is, and so it is usually bad form to compliment someone directly. Instead, some peripheral aspect that is related to them is identified (praise optional) so that the compliment is indirectly received if at all. For example, "You are the best teacher ever" versus "I learned a lot in this class." If one does otherwise, one must be enthusiastically sincere and show one's "bakagaijin" card at the door.

    people slipped over on sidewalks

People slip and people fall over, but to have "slipped over" is probably a new expression in the English language. Hopefully not too many people slip over in the beautiful white snow this season.

Some Japanese people should correctly understand… that period of history, and earnestly draw lessons from history.

Well said by China. It goes for anyone who has done something wrong.

If Mr. Kawamura were to be more accurate, he might have said, "I do not know because I was not there, but my dad was there, working for the imperial government, and he told me 'nothing happened.'" And, to balance his view, I should note that I saw a video interview in one of my classes of a Japanese soldier who was in Nanjing and who confessed that he and other soldiers did and saw many of the awful things that have been claimed against them. The guy seemed distraught like he sensed objective moral underpinnings, but was not entirely sure what to do with the "group think" that seemed so right at the time.

At least the article affirms freedom of speech, but in the market place of ideas, I do not buy the article's claim.
