China and Sk would hate it if Japan shoehorned daily like for example the uk does another patriotic war related themed story into their tv coverage to pay homage to the efforts of their people during previous wars.

Maybe China and Sk should behave to Japan more like the uk and others in terms of their attitude to Germany as they like to quote Germany so much. They will also see then that most countries at least once a year pay respect or thought to their military.

I think Japan doesnt much if at all by comparison shoe horn the military into daily Japan life, so once a year is a very little deal. Reaction is mostly just politics from SK and China for their own internal means.

Looks like the just one Okinawan person they reported from in this article (news title then changes to [whole] Okinawa demands), it looks like they twisted what he said, then got upset - as he was talking about the sex industry not Okinawan people.

Although it's not hard to see that talking in his general tone would ruffle feathers in Okinawa.

    so from Hashimoto's own words:

"It is a result of the tragedy of the war that they became comfort women against their will. The responsibility for the war also lies with Japan. We have to politely offer kind words to [former] comfort women."

time to politely act as he says.

The bbc was one of only a few English language sites I could find that made an attempt to report more of Hashimoto's original speech and add a bit of "context" to it. Most other English language reports just reported the headline comfort women necessary and didn't report the rest of what Hashimoto had to say. I would expect that from news sources/governments/china/SK that are just trying to stir emotions or get web page clicks.

"The United States should be just as concerned as other countries about a rise in Japanese nationalism"

Dear China, can you provide a list of "other" countries that are "concerned" about this? ...shouldn't take long to write.

Also there are plenty of stories on JT covering untrustworthy US exporters sending product that does not fit the legal requirements as previously agreed for import to Japan. Quality(even health) as well as economics with be dimensions of FTA.

    really??

That's why some US farmers are pushing for legal protection to make it harder to investigate bad farmers, which there are enough. search BBC for US animal laws 'may impact globally': www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-22098224

smithinjapanAPR. 01, 2013 - 03:38PM JST I see Google and Samsung have yet again quickly latched on to an Apple idea. They'll probably try to make their versions the size of your lower arm.

Dd you read the article? the following part for example: The idea of the connected watch has been around for at least a decade: Microsoft had one in 2003. And some devices are already on the market including from Sony, the crowdfunded maker Pebble and Italian-based firm i’m.

just like their ipad, I guess Apple copied from Microsoft again ...(sarcasm)

It always comes across more disrespectful and arrogant if you commit a crime in another country, blatantly in this case. Will this be store on the systems for the next time they show their passport at visa control?

International news reporting is so brief. Wheres the chart that shows the yen is still very high as opposed really very high a few months ago compared with normal before the current finacial crisis from 2008. The difference is massive.. It's still high, calling it weak just shows the weak reporting we get for news.

“What can it do for me?”

I like the idea that the masks show consideration for OTHERS, ie trying to help not spread your cold and flu germs to others.

Its seems that most posters from other cultures always concentrate on what the masks can do for YOURSELF. I presume as they are not used to thinking about others to the same level in their daily life that Japanese culture and schooling entrenches.

The last time Honda engineers got more involved with the car design(right at the end of their last time in F1) ...not just with their name above the door, they gave BAR a championship winning car, which the team (Mercedes) has yet to do any better now the Japanese engineers have left.

Not saying one is a direct product of the other, but not always necessary to say leave to the “brits” ...last time I checked a lot of non brits propping up the “british high tech” sectors and citys.

I wouldn’t be surprise to see in the future the possibility discussed though of a Japan based Honda f1 team as last time round they were starting to build the equipment needed in Japan such as leading edge wind tunnels. ( This is one of the main reason why the f1 bases have stayed UK, Italy, Germany centric as the WT’s are so expensive and not easy to move).

But I thought the Japanese which the parts of the motor racing sector still recently seems surprised at saw F1 as a un-eco wasteful business ( re some team mangers surprised kobayashi cant get Japanese manufacturer backings as “f1 so big in Japan”(right)). I guess the engine rule changes to smaller engines are slowing starting to change this and that is probably helped Honda be more interested from a tech point of view as in the last 5 years f1 was not good for business or dirty publicity from a Japanese point of view.

One of the outstanding stories from all the donating was from how many countries far and while wanted to donate and in most cases to a richer more developed country than themselves. There were alot of "poor" countries that were eager to help.
