"I am very much puzzled. Last week some major European newspaper reported unison that DiCaprio visited a Temple (or shrine) and was asked by "fans" to have a picture taken. He declined by highlighting the "no photos" sign. After he took off his shoes to enter the place, the Japanese fans took his shoes and ran away. I can not find any report on this in a Japanese newspaper. Why ?"
i know of reporters that send stories about japan back to their home countries, but the editors bin it or change it as it doesn't fit with most of the whacky japan stories they want to broadcast.

maybe "i don't know" would be better option than "i don't care" (about a matter of world peace, etc)

in some places the mantra for children crossing a road safely is stop, look, LISTEN.

"I think the bigger point is not which is worse, it's that prohibition on a substance doesn't work."
you could argue that in Japan it has. ..to the extent that attitudes to it here are far different to western countries that have a prevalence and take up of it and their own problems as a result: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/8115229.stm . and yes like most around the world i do make a "real" distinction between alcohol and "drugs" as i know some places are more prim about alcohol in "general".

The Japan immigration office could probably use this as a evidence to make their policies stricter against more immigration ...and I suppose the Japanese police too could do more targeted checks.

I always think more japanese should spend more time abroad....
....then they would realise the good and bad things about their country ...and not throw that away as its rare and or unique in some instances. ..especially the kids.

"public Warning"
Seriously though they probably should have more public awareness or warning against too much "american" food in Japan.
Even American scientists that study long life cite the exam of Japanese in Hawaii, having come from a diet culture(Japan or Okinawa) that "promotes" long life then moving to Hawaii and eating alot of American food there life expectancy is reduced dramatically. Japanese can be there own worse enemy with their fascination with the "exotic" foreign goods.
In fact "American" food is MORE DANGEROUS FOR FIRST GENERATION JAPANESE exposed to American food then American food is dangerous for AMERICANS as basically the Japanese are not used to that kind of overloading diet. The first generation of Japanese exposed an American diet will have far greater health problems and shorter life than say the "native American".
anyway i sure some pr man will just say we are providing consumer choice and sleep easy. ... or providing food to homesick expats.
it seems recently the western foods cos are certainly trying hard to break the local market / diet.

In another JT article about fashion someone was going on about how Japan hasnt moved on, got over from "the war", so hence the cute ambassadors fashion was not somehow correct.
mmm whats the headline else where on the globe
"War Veteran 'Is World's Oldest Man At 113'" skynews uk.
mmm so who cant stop going on about a bit of military action then, even in a matter like this.

Anyone know how wide is a bullet train is compared to a european high speed train? I always find the euro trains cramped, which is ironic as euopeans are larger people generally. just wondered if the facts bore that out.

blah blah noticed comments about tgv is faster etc... but not as nice a ride by a long shot compared to shinkensen. speed isnt everything.
Anyway the french countryside is a little easier to navigate at speed so less of an engineering challenge compared to all the mountains etc in Japan.
Either way though better public transit is a good thing.

I wonder..
Invited, organized? (there are plenty of organized nude places - an onsem isnt one, well not outside the pool that is as suggested in this story. Is the owner happy about this?)
or
taking advantage ignoring the local customs? (not the firts time for some types of tourist that can be abroad but you wouldn't know it especially with set up areas, ghettos representing home in some countries)
