book view from the uk... well one thing for sure if contrastiing uk and japan on class not ethinicity, Japan could be considered to have almost Homogeneity society. ie japanese are mostly all middle class if judging by uk standards. Depend what you think is in important really for a stable bonding society.

Not sure i ( or various plane review websites) concur with the ANA small seat comments.
I've flown most of the airlines between Europe and Japan and Europe and USA.
For Europe Japan, the Japanese airlines always win on terms of service. linking to the recent BA story on Japan today, they are my worst direct or premium flight option. Its always such a rude awakening getting on a BA flight out of Japan.. bang, yeah welcome to British style hospitality and service.. as soon as you board the plane, an immediate contrast for Japanese to get used to or foreigners that are used to Japanese service standards. Add to that the strikes in recent years, the unreliable service, lost luggage, etc.. that's why they are doing so many campaigns. Even in business class, interesting (but not great) flat beds, but naff service, even ordering sake I found I can see the difference - the stewardess didn't have a clue and was asking the customers how to do her job ( but at least she was smiling and kind as versus BA cattle class service). Knowing staff on UK airlines and Japan airlines the crew on Japanese airlines really do worry a lot and get stressed about training and providing service and not making mistakes, this in relative contrast (in this example) to the relaxed attitude to life on uk airlines.
Virgin is ok service i find and the entertainment system on their flights has always been one of the better for a long time so ANA upgrading in this case is a good thing.
Air France again is ok/good for service plus the food and free champagne is good/notable once you are on the flight, but let down big time by the ground service and using CDG as an interconnecting airport is regularly unreliable often resulting in having to take a day later flight many times. ANA has one up on the Europe routes as it one of the few that offers evening flights to Japan.
Comparing flying all over I would not say the seat pitch on ANA flights is notably small. In fact if you look up the data on seatguru type websites you will find the average seat pitch for international flights is larger on ana versus say american or BA or virgin. Of course individual aircraft vary. JAL does seem to have a small average seat pitch on those websites though.

"Israel says incursion will continue until Hamas rocket fire ceases"
...and that won't stop until isreal stops being a bully and making daily life a misery.
so isreal is going again for personal gain because unless they are really stupid they know their actions wont end this conflict. maybe they listen to the ill infomed americans too much.

"I think Americans need to realize that they are a part of the problem and they always have"
so true
Israel needs to learn that they are only breeding the next generation of hate.. they were doing that already before these last few days. The way they treat people day to day its no surprise they have alot of people that hate them and will continue to hurt them.

There is NO salvation without Christ
That kind of thinking of "only my way is right" or "your either with us or not" is the kind of thing that leads to wars from these evil religions.
The irony from those religions originating from the middle east that they share the same things but give them different names.
If anything Japan should stay with Shinto or Buddhism it has a lot less history of polarized issues with other peoples around the world.. would also make them less of a target for narrow minded extremist terrorists.

yeaahhh!! down with the losers.
naff companies which have had decades to sort themselves out shouldn't be propped up, especially after all their loser style complaining.
If they want to not be losers they should use their skills better to understand and make products that more people around the world want. Maybe the us gov can invest in green projecys or infastructure so that the workers that loose their jobs have something better to focus their energy and skills on. Also maybe a chance for them to really turn a new leaf and learn that their gas guzzling ways were long outdated in the world.
Maybe they they realise there are better car companies in the world now.

Maybe it will give Honda an option in the future to set a Japanese based f1 outfit in the future. This is instead of investing loads into the location inherited location from the team that they bought out BAR. Investing in BAR or the earlier tests with the more "secret" uk based HRD was seen more necessary then as teams had become stuck in their uk locations due to already substantial investments in wind tunnels etc which are not easily moved. In addition Honda can pick up and employ experienced engineers based there. However Honda have started to replicate and improve upon some of those facilities in Japan for now as dual purpose(road/race) R&D facilities. However they could use them for just racing in the future and thus have a proper Japanese based team. This would be healthy for F1 to become more international and not to be 80% stuck round the oxford cotwolds base in the UK. Anyway maybe as a company they have more important things and other technologies to concentrate on for the future. But maybe when there is more spare money again who knows.

Also pow treatment by the "allies"... another area I forget to say that could be double checked to level your knowledge gained from national tv or school history lessons. Google is a simple start, but maybe reading this book might be also be.. but probably too slanted.

"Yes, but I don't recall any of the Allies going on the rampage, raping women, bayonetting babies, performing experiments on people without anaesthetic, starving POW's, using slave labor, etc."
... I think you need to check up on all the mass rapes by allies that were hushed up and senior commanders and politicians turned a blind eye to.
This happened in declared peace time immediately after Japans surrender. In some ways the allies crimes were worse and more cowardly crimes than the war time crimes that happened to the other east Asian countries. Do some research and you will find this. It is said that many of the elder generation on Okinawa know someone raped by an American. But also look at main land Japan and related hushed up crimes by American and Australians. I guess this story is a case in point that not all history that everyone is taught is the same or covers everything. Just look at world tv news coverage of say something like a g8 meeting…this will give you a clue. But anyway move on, no one is taught perfect history. I think the reason Japan/usa relations are better than say Japan china or Japan Korea is not down to just interpretation of history.

The cultural imperialists at that time were not healthy for Japan and brain washing the locals too. Further brainwashing today would not be a good either. I say keep them in the usa, especially the deep south or the dirty Vatican. widespread Christian religious conservative imperial extremists not needed everywhere on the globe.

Visa publishes expats guide to living in Japan... ...should read: Visa publishes expats guide to living in Japan with a Visa card.
don't bother going against the grain just to line the visa companies coffers; appreciate the fact that its safer in Japan and that those kind of safety motives/advertising for not using cash are not so prevalent in the cash society of Japan. In addition you will join a society which doesn't borrow money so easily and get into personal debt so easily as you can see more easily the money you have(or not) and are spending.
... learn/remember when going abroad outside Japan, don't carry cash and zip up you bags and keep them close to you, if you look japanese you will be targeted as an easy pick/naive for pick pockets.
