Isn't underage drinking a crime? Why isn't this in the crime section? I think I know why...

lostbreed-- You're right. I guess I should ammend my statement to say those who look like they are of mixed parentage will experience the same kind of discrimination in the US that I experienced. How's that? That even covers 1/4s and 1/8s. How's that for inclusive? The fact of the matter is, my asian features meant that the black kids couldn't accept me, and my dark skin couldn't be accepted by the asian kids. As a result, I got it from both ends. You are also right in saying that culture isn't based on DNA. However, in a culture where blood and how you look is used to determine your worth, seeing as DNA determines how you look, it falls to DNA to determine how you are treated, and how you experience said culture. BTW, your 100% Japanese raised by a white couple here doesn't fly. as 100% Japanese they would experience no racial discrimination until someone found out about the parents. They wouldn't have incidents at the conbini or at the koban on thier bike.

Tkoind- Right on. 100% agree. --"If someone wanted to know what it felt like to be discriminated against, he just has to live in Japan for a year." -- This is true. Caveat: The discrimination experienced here is not as violent as elsewhere. One only need to look at the US to see a marked difference in the type and intensity of discrimination experienced by minorities there and minorities here. In recent years in the south of the US, there were lynchings of minorities and church burnings. To my knowledge none of that happens here to minorities here. Sure you get your pugnacious drunken salaryman bouts, but nothing that really ammounts to that same level of terror.

"What I also found interesting is that the Japanese don't feel that they discriminate."-- Most racists don't. They think they are following natural law.

BTW, I am sick and tired of all the passive stoics telling people to just lay down and take discrimination. "It's not your problem it's thiers." That's the lamest. When will it be your problem? When your kid comes home crying because some intolerant wastes of space beat him/her up, or bullied him/her? Or they kill themselves a result of the mental trauma? The level of danger associated with being a minority here is less than where I came from, but that doesn't mean it'll always be that way. Stand up when the ugly head of discrimination rears. Don't just lay down and take it like a good victim.

Cleo- Maybe they'd be interested in hearing about the issues that concern their fellow human beings... Or maybe just wanting to expose themselves to different cultures.

How to explain... Well growing up I never really fit in myself. Being mixed meant that for the large part people of my community couldn't accept me vis a vis a cultural barrier to those who didn't look like "us". Friends come from shared experiences, and as such I need people around me who have experienced similar situations. People who are not half do not experience the same ambiguity of being and belonging that we experience. In very much the same way that a caucasian in the US cannot know what it's like to be discriminated against as a black person. BTW just because he was reaching out to this group to trade war stories if you will, doesn't mean that a Japanese person or non-half couldn't join thier group of friends. I don't recall him stating that this was an organization or anything, so I assume that all intelligent tolerant minds would have been welcome. All he's stating here is that people who can relate to you can be a healing force.

Moderator- Fair enough. I just want to be clear, if he called him "my friend" you would say the same thing? Because that's what "my boy" is- another word for friend. There are many words that, used in this context mean "friend". I just want to be clear on the rules.

Hey Moderator, not sure if you know, but the term "my boy" is a colloquism that implies familiarity or endearment. In this case, most likely the former. Not nessecarily calling a poster by an improper name. There's my good deed for the day.

Moderator: It doesn't matter. This isn't a chatroom. All posters are required to address other contributors by their correct user handles.

So video games might exacerbate an existing fetish? Besides the fact that your point relies on much speculation, therefore in itself flawed, there's a problem with your scenario. You say that someone might get into this even though they might not be interested in it? I don't think so. Your arguement that someone, after playing this game, would be more likely to try this stuff IRL is how I can connect this issue to other games of other genres. As stated before I have played Resident Evil 4, and I am in no way more prone to violence than someone who has not played the game. Your statement gives idiots who don't follow the law an excuse. I guess if a rapist says he played this game prior to commiting the crime, you would blame him less? Would you say he's a poor guy, defenseless against the evil game? Or would you, like I would hang the blame completely on him, remembering that there must be hundreds who played the same game and DIDN'T commit a crime?

Yawmin- 100% agree. Jali001- What? How is this game going to be detrimental to rape victims? Are rape victims buying this? I don't think so. The game is insensitive to women definitely, and just for that it's a game I can't see myself playing. Who, however gave me the right to tell fans of the game, "you can't play it because this game doesn't sit well with MY morals?"

Well now, that piques my interest. You work in games? Then you should at least understand my stance if you don't agree with it. As far as the marrying the 2-D characters, I'll admit, it's weird, but what's the harm to me or anyone else? This same to each his own attitude is what fuels my point. Again, this game is NOT my type of game, but I would be a hypocrite to say ban this game, and then say let me make the choices in my life. What is the name of your website? I'm interested in seeing your work.

As someone who came to Japan in part for the video games, I laugh at your post. I've played all kinds of games from sims to action to rpgs. I've played some of the best and the worst from every genre. I understand the aprehension you and others feel about such a game. I also know that video games are not to blame for the ills of society. Hold the rapists and murderers accountable, don't pawn off an ounce of the blame on video games, a sequence of 1s and 0s.

So Resident Evil 4 doesn't simulate killing? It was voted one of the best games ever for it's realism. I understand that they are different genres but the arguement remains the same. What needs to happen is people need to own up to thier actions, and stop blaming others for thier failure to follow the law. When that finally happens, people will realise that rape and murder existed before video games, and without video games, they will still exist.

See people like those that are seeking to ban this game are unwittingly giving the real criminals who regardless of whether this game exists or not would rape and kill anyway, an excuse. They could say "I was brainwashed by the evil videogame online. It's not my fault, pity me." Don't give them the excuse. My favorite game is Resident Evil 4 where the main character, if you're thorough kills 1008 enemies (the game keeps track of your kills as well as the times you die) and while I've had the odd boss or 2 that I've wanted to kill- who hasn't- I didn't because I know right from wrong, fantasy from reality. I've had to deal with the the consequences of my actions all my life. Video games in no way have blurred that or skewed my perspective. I don't deserve a cookie, it's just very common sense. While this game isn't my cup of tea, I don't see how it could cause someone who OTHERWISE would never rape someone to commit such a horrible act to a real person.

That's sort of what I was thinking. Homeless girls are never that hot. The make up leaves much to be desired though, I mean unless she just got into a fight with someone's garden, the dirt on her would've taken months to get to that point. So how does she have a 100,000 yen haircut? wouldn't it be matted and rat nesty looking? Maybe I expect too much, like I would hope this drama would highlight some of the hardships that homeless people face here, but it's probably just a Cinderella remake.

If Germany herself admits it, who are we to say they're lying or wrong? What would they possibly have to gain by admiting to thier leaders commiting genocide? Were ANY of the deniers there? As far as I've heard the answer is no.

I usually just like to stay out of debates of this nature, because almost no one can argue thier points reasonably. You have people who insist on blanket statements and declarations of "Race Wars", despite the fact that such blanket statements wouldn't apply to their own situation. Samminish, here in Japan, 100% of the homeless I've ever seen in my years here have been Japanese. Does that mean the Japanese lack the drive to succeed, as you suggest black people as a whole do in LA? Do you not realise that as a metropolis LA has a large minority population due to the relative availability of jobs and the relatively cheap housing, and that the homeless you see are only a fraction of that minority? Obama may have won, but as the many threats on his life have illustrated, racism is still alive. We can't afford to let this one victory as great as it is, convince us the fight is over.

This is the kind of fanatazism that started this. With this mindset it will never end. It is useless to argue with someone who thinks it's ok to kill innocents not as collateral damage, but as the main targets. Killing innocents is wrong in every way, but in war, it will happen. There should be a concentrated effort to avoid collateral damage, something Hamas has shown it is unwilling to do. If Israel used suicide bombers to kill random people in Gaza, azagnoraw would give them his support. He's NOT helping the pro-Hamas posters here. He's talking himself into a corner.

azagnoraw, I understand now what you mean. I guess dying that way would look courageous to one who's afraid to die. Though killing innocents, and yourself in the process to avoid retribution and prosecution is cowardly.
