Can't agree with you Elbuda. Why do women plaster themselves with smelly liquids. Like shoes, they are far the woman's own benefit - I do not care either way but they make her feel good, I suppose. I think scents are generally weird and unnatural.
People tend to stay clean these days and do not need to mask their own smell. The only other function is for a musky scent to work as an aphrodisiac, which probably does work, but not as well as the historical method - application of the female body's own "musk" behind the ears to drive the men wild!

I hope that the Japanese grand prix will provide the perfect pretext to show a photo of Jessica Michibata.

Sacrasm, the only way to deal with a truly loaded question.
I really hope that JT follows up with something like, "Drunk drivers who smash into other people - are they irresponsible?"

It is a great pity - the campaign would have been so much more entertaining for the rest of the world if this women of limited ability and crass ignorance had run for president. Now we are going to have to put up with some sensible Republican candidate...boring.

johninnaha: I suppose you mean "Monty Python's Life of Brian", which had the sketch, "What have the Romans ever done for us?"
As the article states, they are paraphrasing this title, not suggesting that Monty Python made a sketch about Korea. The question is relevant due to the significant influence that has come from Korea over the centuries. I hope this clears the confusion.

Japan is more a spectator of the current economic malaise, although it bears all the hallmarks of Japan's own bubble that burst 20 years ago.
Japan has managed to get through the last 20 years with its great manufacturing and export markets as well as borrowing a huge amount. The global economic problems and the strong yen mean that the global problems will also affect Japan.

Confession: I always had a thing for the pop tunes of Puffy. Look down on me all you like!
Posted in: Why do some people mock others' taste in music and dismiss groups that they don't like as being crap and having no talent, etc, as if they were some great authority or arbiter on musical excellence?

My wife says that carrots always used to be the least popular among Japanese children - Japanese carrots are apparently rather bitter.

Of course he is an amateur - politics is an amateur business - anyone can stand for election and then be put in charge of anything. The US president is Commander-in-Chief of the military, but he did not achieve that exalted rank by being a great general.

That would be central heating and Japan does not have central heating. Warm houses are not the Japanese way. You'll be asking for insulation next!

Having a remote control is largely irrelevant, or even a TV reception. Just record 5 minutes of any typical variety shows and show it on an endless loop on every channel. No one will be any the wiser.

From my office in a tall building in London's Canary Wharf, I can see a thick cloud of smoke rising up from about 10kn behind the Olympic stadium. I suspect this smoke comes from the burning down of a Sony wharehouse in the north of London - the wharehouse that keeps London's stores stocked with Sony gadgets.

Oh get a grip. These are criminals who have had opportunities in education, are well-fed, clothed and housed. There is no protest, no cause, just mindless violence, looting and thuggery.
This does not compare with the riots in France in 2005.

The incident leading up to this is still unclear. What is not mentioned above is that a policeman was also shot, his life apparently save by his radio that deflected a bullet.
How it all led to this riot is confusing.

90 to 100 is probably the most appropriate rate for the $/yen. A weak yen may appear tempting, but it is artificial and has unintended consequences.

There is a crisis all right. It began in the summer of 2007 and we are still in it. The stock market movements are nothing more than another delayed reaction. In recent months, the crisis has just moved from one phase to another - from heavily indebted European nations to the biggest of them all - the USA. A few weeks ago no one would have even questioned the USA losing its AAA rating and this weekend it has. Heaven knows how the markets will react on Monday.
The emerging markets are also under threat. China has boomed mainly through supplying the West with consumer, who had been on a shopping spree funded with borrowed money. Who was lending America all the money to buy so much Chinese-made produce? China, of course!
Japan may appear a little isolated, it is being punished through an over-valued yen.

Top Gear is not watched in Japan and in Britain the "controversy" has gone completely unnoticed by the media and population. No publicity for anyone. Completely differently from when Clarkson called Mexicans, lazy, feckless and flatulent, which caused a lot of fuss, and especially as everyone knows they are not lazy.
The presenters almost got shot in a hick town when doing their road trip to New Orleans by outraged local red-necks - definitely worth watching on youtube.
