He needs to worry about having justice given to those in his country who killed innocent UN workers than worrying about what is going on in another country.

These people should be protesting their own government rather than worrying about what some guys in Florida do to a Koran. In America, he has the right to do such a thing. I could see if he went to Afg. and burned the Koran there, but he was half a world away.
Tose imams should tell their people, take that same energy, and either throw out the government that they have their, or make the changes themselves in their local regions so that life will not be as miserable as it is there (you know, the bombings and killings by muslims against other muslims).

@smithinjapan: I am not sure what you mean, but what I was trying to say that te radiation levels that are being recorded in NV are far lower than the doses that they received back when open air testing was going on.
Not to make light of the situation there at Fukushima, but I think this is a case of everyone wanting to say that "they were affected" in the US.

The US has exploded over 1500 nuclear weapons since WW2 (2 in war, the rest in testing). About 330 of them were above ground. Many were done at the Nevada Test site. So I am not so sure why they are worried about readings from Japan.

I just wonder how long before the Yakuza scammers get involved and start stealing money from this cause. If they do, I hope that they get caught and made an example of for others not to do it.

@realmind: You nailed it correctly. Just look at Iraq. China is making good money on investing in the infrastructre of Iraq, after the US paid for the removal and installation of a new government with our money and blood.
If the UN had any backbone, they should say that the countries that get the first chances of rebuilding are the ones who voted for the resolution.

I guess Obama and Bush are the same. If you don't believe me, here are two quotes that happend on Mar 19 from both presidents:
MARCH 19, 2011 OBAMA: 'Today we are part of a broad coalition. We are answering the calls of a threatened people. And we are acting in the interests of the United States and the world'...
MARCH 19, 2003 BUSH: 'American and coalition forces are in the early stages of military operations to disarm Iraq, to free its people and to defend the world from grave danger'...
I guess pretty soon Code Pink will start up again. And when the first major losses by NATO occurs, it will mean that the US will be left alone there.
The world is pretty much the same, no matter who is in the White House.

If you buy one and get a high reading, what will you do? If you are not wearing protective clothing you are already exposed. What will you do then?

A lot of good the hoods will do when the students are still wearing shorts and exposing skin. If there was a chance of radiation contamination, it would get in through the skin also and not just being breathed in.
I think the GOJ was hesitant to just declare a "week off" for the nation, in order to limit the numbers of people using the trains and the power consumption. I guess they didn't want it to seem like that they weren't in control. In a way, they are not, with how they have managed the power situation.
But I will say this, I respect that the Emperor made his speech. At least he stood in a leadership role, better than Obama making an ESPN special on his NCAA bracket picks.

@rajakumar: I can see where you are coming from, but do you know what the donations/charity that Slim has contributed. I am sure that it does not compare to what Buffet and Gates does.
@TheQuestion: You hit it on the head. Even the super rich in the US will give, but I have not seen where Mr. Slim has donated that much wealth, with all of the poverty in Mexico.

Where are all of the activist who attack on the rich and say that they are unfairly rigging the system. Slim has so much money, yet Mexico is such a poor place. Where are all of the protests demanding that they should "give" to help make things fairer for everyone. This guy could easily payback the state of California for all of the illegal alien costs his countrymen have caused and get them out of their budget crisis.

@Molenir: Good points!
It is in their right to disagree with the bill, and they should say so in the state house. But to run away and say that we can meet in a neutral location is just plain cowardice. Whether you like the Reps or not, they at least stayed in Congress even when they were the majority and still gave debate on the Health Care Bill and other items that were brought forth.
If the Dems have the right answers, then if they present them in a clear and logical manner, I would imagine that they should be able to change a few minds on the opposition side to affect the outcome. But all they have to offer is whining and running away, which tells me that they had no viable solutions.
I say that they are all in contempt of the people who elected them, and should be forced to a recall.

For a nation that outlaws guns (Mexico), they sure have a lot of gun murders. I guess only the outlaws have guns.

I'm from Arkansas, and he did ok as Gov. I wish he would have instituted the Flat Tax that he wants the US to go to in AR first so we can see how it works, but he didn't.
Isn't that what organized religion is? I see you sometimes post that it is the cause of all our problems. At least with religion, the ultimate goal is for the next life. I am sure you will say that is just a flaw of Christanit, but show me a Buddahist that isn't giving to the temple and following a specific dogma in order to reach Nirvana. Your arguments are basically calling for a secular religion.

It does work so well. Why do you think that gays want to be included in this institution? If marriage is so outdated, then they wouldn't be upset without being able to do it, even though civil unions are recognized in the states.

@Typhoon Tom: You are correct. But I think the original point brought up was that riding in a bus is like a big target. And I agree. It would be so simple to have SOFA status personnel drive Kanji plates vice the "Y" plates, but knowing how the bureaucracy works here in Japan, that would involve too many moving parts when it comes to paying the road tax (there is a big difference between a Kanji plate and "Y" plate).
But most important, from a Force protection measure, a group of non-Japanese even in a regular bus would stand out more than the same in Germany.
This guy had a deliberate plan. If he just went after any bus loading there, I wouldn't say that but he went specifically for the USAF bus.

Here in Japan as you know, all affiliated personnel with the US have a "Y" plate on their car, and just by being in Japan, you normally stick out racially too. So we are more of an easy target for such an event here, and it really wouldn't matter if they were in a USAF marked bus or not.
Not cost efficient. Back when the US had a larger presence, there were aircraft that were used to ferry people back and forth from military installation to installation. You still have some of that here in Japan, but for ease and cost, it is much cheaper to just fly commercial. A ticket is much cheaper and faster than waiting for a plane to be fully loaded in order to justify a flight. Also, these guys were traveling in civilian clothes, which is a Force Protection requirement.
