Good idea. But those subsidies are there because Agribusiness finds it more profitable to ship from overseas, vice grow it in America. Ever had a catfish dinner and found out the catfish was not raised on a fish farm in Arkansas, but imported from China.

The business will pass this tax on to the consumers, who now have to deal with higher prices for consumer goods and also higher gas prices.

Instead of a sales tax, just start a tarrif on imported goods from China, which currently have no import taxes on them.

Also, CA has the second highest paid teachers in America. But on the proficiency testing in math, they rank 41 out of 50. So instead of throwing more money into education as the Pesident said, how about starting to cut. Cut out the teachers that are not making it, get rid of the excess that the unions demand and the oversight. Start teaching only US citizens, or alien children who have properly admitted to America and are not illegal.
Start cutting there and you should start seeing more bang for your buck.

@SushiSake3: If you have all of the answers, then why don't you share them. Just bringing up past policies is not providing any answers.
CA's budget and spending is a result of a Democratic controlled state legislature. Even though they had a Rep. Gov in the past, the state legislature had a majority Dem party, which controlled the budget process. Also, CA has the highest state taxes and many business leave CA due to the taxes, and the Environmental regulations (CAL OSHA puts as many regulations on business as the Fed OSHA).
The costs associated with these people is not so much when they are working, but when they retire. That is why CA is going broke. The public service employee unions and their right of a guarnteed retirement pension (paid for with state tax dollars) is a big problem. If you think I am wrong, just do a research on the case of Bell, CA. A poorer city of LA whose City Manager (a Dem.) was making over $500K a year (more than the President), and due to the way his contract was written, is scheduled to get at least $600K/year when he retires (luckily that may get thrown out).
So do a bit of research, and you start posting about bad GOP and good Dem party.

That is probably one thing that matters the most. We get screwed inthe deals made with China and Southh Korea, etc., yet we let them drop off their goods in America and it is little cost to them.
Not true, just look at Alec Baldwin, a "super liberal" who is totally against everything the Republicans offer, like tax cuts, but now we find out that he keeps his assest in Conn, and is in a legal issue with NYC where he has a residence but still claims Conn as his home, for lower taxes. Yet, he wants people who make way less than he does to have increased taxes.

Some good points, but I am willing to give up some of my subsidies, as long as they control the border, and stop paying services (schooling, medical care, welfare) to the 12 million illegal aliens in the US. It was estimated that LA county alone spent $600 million last year in welfare benefits to illegal aliens. California has a $23 billion defecit. Eliminating illegal alien costs in LA county alone could almost knock off $1 billlion, so imagine if they did that statewide, and the US did it nationally.

Why didn't dad just take care of this himself by taking away priviliges for the daughter, and showing a little backbone. Also, since when is it news that a teenager is caught with drugs? I think Japan needs to wake up to the fact that it has a drug problem.

If you just do a web search, you can see what the Pres has been doing for the past two years. You can then see how many golf games and vacations have been taken. You don't have to rely on Fox.

How about going to where the pirates base themselves, and start there by destroying thier ships while inport.
A commando raid to place mines at the bottoms of their ships, or even mining the harbors where the pirates operate from will slow them down.

Why is it that the companies here all hire at one particular season? Haven't they ever heard of hiring when a vacancy needs to be filled? So help me out, if someone just happens to leave their job in November, does the company wait until April to fill in that position? If they do, then either that position wasn't very vital or that company has way too many people on hand doing "busy work."

Alabama? Home of the KKK, the Bible belt hypocrites and fools like this idiot claiming those who do not believe in Jesus are not really saved?
@eldudamexicano: I am not a practicing Buddahist, and according to those who practice their religion, I will not reach Nirvana when I die. Same thing with Hinduism, I am not a believer and according to their religions, I will not get the same reward when I die. So does that make places like India (majority Hindu), backwards places too (they are but not becuase of their religious beliefs).
Easy to bash Christians. And as I said earlier, try to go to Mecca as a non believer; you will not be allowed in. As long as he is not advocating treatig others unfairly because of their religious beliefs, his reasoning is between him and his god.

It wasn't at his inagural address but at the church (Dexter Ave. Church) the Rev. King led while he lived in Montgomery.
His statements are far more tame than those you get in any predominately Muslim nation. If you are non-muslim, you are still treated as a second class citizen (try going into Mecca if you are non-Muslim), and under Sharia law, you have to pay a tax for non-muslim.
But, he did not say that it was his goal to convert the non believers, or wage a war against them. If you belive (and I do) then I get the point that in order to be called a "true brother" or believer, you have to be a Christian. But, if someone I meet isn't then that is their choice. I don't discriminate or hold that against them. I believe that it is ultimately up to the individual to make the choice.
So, this is much ado about nothing in my opinion. If that is how he wants to think, then let him. As long as he is not calling for the mass conversion of those who don't think like him that is fine. After all, I am told we have to be "tolerant" of others with their sexual choice, their religious beliefs or other things, so just let the man have his own beliefs.

@Billgates: why would one go to the venue all the way from Japan and then leave before the big event?
The article states that they are there for Super Bowl week. The Super Bowl is not until 6 Feb. The teams that will be playing there have not even been determined yet. There is still the Pro-Bowl that will go on before the Superbowl.
The press and all of the pre-game activities will not even begin until the week of 1-5 Feb.
So as I stated, they have an awful long wait before the real activities begin. If I could sell that kind of vacation package to someone, two weeks before the event begins, I guess I would be a rich man.

They have a long vacation. Superbowl is not until 2 weeks away. I hope that they go visit other locations in Texas. 2 weeks is too long to just stay in Dallas.

RIP for the kid. That guy sure married a "fine piece of work" in that lady.
41 is pretty up there for a woman to be having a kid. I imagine it was her first one (just guessing). I guess she didn't realize when she had that urge to have a kid that it would take a lot of work.

@yabits, you need to take the time to listen to the speech. A speaker introducing himself, talking about the heritage of his parents, and the oppression they faced in the 1800's is probably a good speech to give at an immigration rally; but to make those points at a somber service as a memorial for victims who were shot by some lunatic is not.
So I suggest, go back, listen to the speech, and tell me you think that is the right time and right place for such a thing. Then sit back and consider, if this was a truly non-partisan event, words like that wouldn't have been spoken, and the "crowd" that was present wouldn't have been shipped in. I imagine they just changed from the purple shirt crowd to the Blue shirt crowd.
I will give Obama credit, at least he took a forward stance on this issue, unlike the past tragedies where he has been slow to response.

@yabits: You seem to contridict yourself with every post. Did you even see or listen to the memorial service. If not let me help you. The first speaker was a professor from the Univ, who introduced himself as being a "Mexican on his mother's side, one of the original inhabitants of the valley (or so)" which garnered him rounds of applause (and not the applause for the Congresswoman's condition).
If that doesn't seem to smack of "Never let a good crisis go to waste (Rahm Emanuel), I don't know what does. I give Obama credit, he tried to at least tow the rational line and make it too much of a one sided event, but if you keep associating the people on the far right fringe who may be a bit extreme with the entire Tea Party, then you need to man up and admit that the left is just as bad. Using a memorial service to pass out T-shirts and bumper stickers. I have never seen such a service with such crass opportunism.
So answer that, and please don't go off on a tangent and try to bring up something else.
