British English Teacher (50), Sapporo:
I was teaching a student when the coffee cups shook like Jurassic Park and the plants swayed. She went home. I stayed at work while there were two more quakes - my boyfriend at home watching TV said
My student comes from Sendai and I called her, she was trying to call her mother and sister (all ok later). I went home. It was my 50th birthday weekend: boyfriend had secretly booked a white limo with champagne and roses etc - it was the STRANGEST birthday weekend. On the Saturday night I stood up thru the sunroof of a limo driving thru Sapporo, drunkenly singing "Happy Birthday to me" while people in Tohoku hunted wrecked communities for their loved ones. To have personal happiness and public grief/shock on the same weekend was very hard.

No confidence. No time. No energy. Fear of taking a risk. I have J-girlfriends who commute for 3 hours a day, go home to the suburbs at weekends to sleep/do laundry/watch TV with their parents....that lifestyle isn't conducive to meeting someone and feeling sexy. Sad.

90 year old lady, husband who died years ago was a painter/scientist/university lab worker....that's my guess. The box they keep showing on the Tv appears to have tubes of oil paints in it too - so maybe an amateur artist who stashed an old box of stuff under the floorboards and his wife never knew....if there weren't radiation fears in Japan now this would never have been detected.

Absolutely necessary. Japan should join the rest of the world. It is light here at 4 am at the moment...so much wasted daylight.

My fav. visiting celeb in local Tv was David Beckham a few years back sitting in on Tunnels show in that corner where they have to eat 4 foods and one of them is something they don't like... Beckham is such a simple guy with nothing much to say, and my guess is that he hadn't even seen a tape of the show's format so he looked very very bemused by the whole thing and the program was rescued from a complete nosedive by the other celeb, an English-speaking Japanese actress or singer.
Dinner with Beckham...err...no thanks...

I reckon there is something here...maybe just a sense I had when I saw that video of him on the apartment elevator - preening in the mirror to check his appearence...and when they released artist impressions of him recently one of the pix had him in a long hair, brown wig...
But Chiba police have a pretty weak excuse..I hope their Kabukicho area colleagues help out the poor darlings. Don't they HAVE undercover officers in Kabukicho??!
Meanwhile I'll go on wearing my campaign T-shirt that I got through Being a Broad in Japan - so I can keep this guy's face in people's minds...
