Breivik said that Japan and South Korea are today the most peaceful societies where you can travel freely everywhere without the constant fear of getting raped, ravaged, robbed or killed.

How about riding trains without being groped?

Irony aside, we should not forget that this guy is a lunatic no matter what his beliefs are. This tragedy might have occurred ANYWHERE around the world, even in the countries that are considered to be safe and civilized. Just remember the Sarin gas attack on the Tokyo subway.

As for his political beliefs, for some people, he is right and for some others, he is not. Personally, i am against Multiculturalism and i want Japan to preserve its identity. I respect the customs, traditions and norms of this place, and i expect from the Japanese to respect mine as well, but i do keep in mind that i am a foreigner in this country, and no matter what, i have to follow the Japanese rules. End of story. I can't expect Japanese territories to turn into "Little Greece" nor do i expect the Japanese to be tolerant towards my habits. I won't like it either if 1 million Greeks/Arabs/ Italians/ Spanish/ Aliens emigrate instantly to Japan without first adjusting to the Japanese way of living.

The funny thing is that he was actually in the right path. He got her email, her home address....the next step should have been to invite her for coffee or cinema as a date. But then, he totally screwed up by entering her home illegally and stealing her panties.... Oh, well!

It depends on what survey you are based your answer on. Apparently, there are both surveys claiming that cell phones may cause cancer, and other ones insisting that there is no absolute truth behind this assumption and it is not scientifically proved. Therefore, the only answer seems to be the "i don't know one".

That is exactly what I said yet "someone" voted bad 4 times... hmmmm whats with that?

Gogogo, they are probably distracted by your avatar photo and miss the "good" button.

I love the variety of Japanese products when it comes to cooking. There are one million ways to eat from pretty much anything. And even if you are too bored to cook, there is always a bento waiting for you 5 minutes away in the conbini.

I think its time to: 1) Increase safety measures in train stations 2) Change the life insurance policy so as nobody gets money from a suicide 3) Create a public organization aiming to assist the people with psychological disorders and thoughts of committing suicide while at the same time, make a huge advertisement campaign with slogans such as "Your problem is not only your problem" etc.

Suicide can be prevented in most of the cases. Its a pity for all these people as well as their families, and to a minor extent for all the people who are inconvenienced by their act.

I am going to the beach today!!! Hehe...i love the sea around Enoshima. Its the best place to swim close to Tokyo/Yokohama area. I can't live without swimming at the sea and now it's finally the time. Too bad the majority of the Japanese people only put their legs inside the water and do not actually swim.

Think about it, how many people do you know have Nokia phones? That answer is the same in Japan as in the States (maybe even Europe).

I do have a wonderful Nokia N97 and i am not going to reject it for any Apple, Banana or Watermelon.

It is a fact though, that Japanese market is VERY competitive. Don't worry Nokia. There is plenty of space for you in India, China and Europe.

I like it!!! It shows exactly the level of friendship that these two nations have. Cheers to all U.S. members of JT and Happy 4th of July!!!!

How can somebody consider a fan made in order to commemorate the 4th of July and U.S. - Japan friendship as insulting? It is ridiculous, really.

    Many people die from starvation

Are we talking about the same country?

I am 25 years old and unemployed. I spent 4 years of studying in a university, I gratuated last year and I still live with my parents but I am grateful because they support me in anything.

I started working when i was 18 year old in a supermarket in order to pay the fees for my college (International Business and International Relations). At the same time, i was studying Japanese, learned martial arts and few years later, i was helping my parents financially even though i had to move abroad. The way to success is not easy. It is very tough, my friend and requires constant struggle. You should NOT be grateful that your parents support you. You should feel ashamed like i did few years ago.

By whining and complaining you can not achieve anything. The world is tough and we Greeks can not expect from the rest of the world to pamper us "because we created civilization". That's not the way it works, file mou. And yes, you should not expect everything from the state. By the way, isn't it ironic that while so many people lose their jobs from the private sector, the public employees have 0% risk of getting fired while they get paid more than the employees of the private sector? Isn't this the source of the problem?

Kali sou mera! (It is already past midnight in Japan though).

Burakumin and Foxie, you are both right. That's why bold reforms must be implemented in a way to make crucial changes in the Greek economy. There is no alternative. Of course, there is always the danger of default even if the reforms are implemented. But at least, during the years following the default, Greece would be competitive and would eventually recover. Otherwise, even if China bails out Greece, it would still face the same kind of problem in 15-20 years.

Greece should remember the Myth of Hercules and Arete (Virtue) and Kakia (Malice). Kakia offered him pleasures and riches if he would follow her, while Arete offered him glory after a lifelong struggle against evil. Arete's way was the difficult but the glorious one. That's the way Hercules eventually chose and his name became a legend. Well, Greece should follow the same way. It won't be easy and comfortable but it's the only way out.

I guess this is what happens when hundreds of thousands of people expect to retire at 55 and receive full benefits. Get to work Greece and pay your way.

That's strange, because i don't know anyone in Greece who retires at the age of 55 except the sailors (who complete 20+ years in the seas) and some high-ranking army officials. Even those who have to retire eventually, sometimes decide to work again because their pension is not enough for a good way of living. Instead of reading sensationalized news about "the lazy Greeks" you should read real facts and data.

What destroyed Greece was socialism, the huge and unproductive Public Sector and its overspending (the problem in Greece was the public and NOT the private debt), the lack of innovation and tax evasion. Illegal immigration was also a serious problem, but it is unavoidable, while all the others were not. Greece kept a Soviet type economy for way too long and it is time to get rid of it!!!!

What or who are do the Greeks rail against?

Nobody is railing against anyone. The anarchists who created the riots are the same 300-400 people together with some brainwashed people with mob mentality. As for the "Desperate people"...(the "Aganaktismenoi" as they called in Greek) have similar demands like 3 year old kids (the abolition of capitalism, banking system, etc). They are clowns and they should not be taken seriously. In fact, the Greek Leftist party of Syriza is the one who initiated similar movements and there is a high probability that it was also the one behind it. For your information, it is the same party who demanded that 100,000 public employees should have been hired additionally in a way to tackle the economic crisis!!!!!

Like i said....clowns! The worst thing is that they create a bad image for Greece in the times that Greece needs tourism. And of course, sensationalized news talk about "Chaos that spread throughout Greece" while the riots take place in a radius of 1-2 square Kms and the rest of the country is one of the safest places around the world.

It's sad, but apparently there is no possible way out for Greece for the time being. Borrowing more money only postpones bankruptcy and it is definitely not an effective solution. Unfortunately, Greece did many mistakes. It's a pity that a country with so many comparative advantages (Greece has one of the largest marine fleets in the world) ended up like that. These are the results of corruption, lack of education and innovation, socialism, huge public sector, uncontrolled spending, etc. Greece is a good lesson for other countries and avoid doing the same mistake.

As a Greek person, i hope that more austerity measures and bold reforms are going to be implemented as soon as possible. Public employees need to get fired, as well. It is the only way to keep hope alive.

TEPCO is only thinking of MONEY! They don't care about the citizen, don't care about employees, don't care about children, and don't care about ECO. TEPCO is all about yen sign. All directors have a double face(YEN). We should start thinking of new energy to replace nuclear energy and now is the time think about change.

Sorry, but the fact that Tepco failed to cope effectively with this disaster, does not necessarily prove that nuclear energy is evil, catastrophic etc. It is the lack of effective mechanism to deal with this situation that created the problem.

Few people understand that changing 100% to alternative energy requires time, money and the development of a technology which is not yet available. Maybe it is possible for Denmark, but for a country with 127 million people plus several industrial zones, it is something close to utopia for the time being. I agree though that all nuclear reactors in Japan should be updated in order to cope with a catastrophe of a similar scale. This is a MUST.

It's funny, but i could have been exactly like him. I had some mature Japanese ladies friends (and also guys too) before i met my girlfriend. Of course, i never got 1000$ suit from them.

Now, there is a basic difference. It is ok to be friends with them, chat, go for tea, and play Wii, but IT IS NOT OK to accept expensive gifts from them if you know they are on the verge of bankruptcy. Moreover, this guy talks about the gifts he got and not the gifts he gave to them. Being a friend of mature ladies is not bad, providing that you don't become a "danshou". And this guy seems very close of becoming one.

Btw, how ridiculous is it to talk about the gifts you got and the Japanese mature ladies friends that you have over a public article in web? I wonder if these kind (and probably naive) ladies know that they are members of the "Shichinin no okasan" team of this guy...

I guess it also helped that this guy appeared as a regular on NHK's Cool Japan show!

If it's true, it certainly explains a lot...

No, for a number of reasons. Another basic difference lays in the fact that while any kind of information about what actually happened to Chernobyl such as the contamination of the soil, etc, came out years after the accident, in Fukushima there is no attempt to hide what is going on. Plus, even if they would like to, the whole world is watching. Yes, there were the annoying comments like "i repeat, there is no direct effect to human health" by the you-know-who, but overall, everything is being monitored properly.

Yes, it IS possible for a 71 year old to beat to death a 32 year old. My grandfather in Greece is over 90 year old (he is still working in a forge though) and a couple of years ago, a thief tried to steal his wallet while getting out of his home. My grandpa just held him from his neck and pushed him violently to the wall of the building causing him to seriously hit his head. He didn't die of course, but he had to go to hospital before he was arrested. This incident took less than 3-4 seconds and didn't involve any punches, kicks, etc. Sometime, just falling down in a sharp object might be lethal. And yes, there are many old men who are in a better physical condition than people in their 30s.
